We are looking for an Underground Mine Geologist to join our Technical Services Team at Cliffs. This role may suit someone who has previous experience in a similar role or a qualified graduate, who is looking for a first professional role. Reporting to Senior Mine Geologist, this role will be responsible overseeing all grade control activities to determine the volume and the quality of the ore produced, with a focus on optimum recoveries.

Other responsibilities include:
  • Face mapping and sampling as well as daily ore tracking and reporting;
  • ROM stockpile management;
  • Developing, evaluating and reconciling of stopes;
  • Entering and managing the data and grade control updates in Leapfrog and Datamine;
  • Assisting Senior Geologist with ore stockpile management and mine reconciliation;
  • Providing support and expertise to other members of the Technical Services Team when required;
  • Researching and implementing improvements to our procedures and processes; and
  • Championing BHP Charter Values and contributing to our visual safety culture on a daily basis.   


Nickel West Cliffs

Nickel West Cliffs is located approximately 375 kilometres north of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia.  Cliffs underground Nickel Mine is an integral part of Nickel West Leinster comprising of a nickel concentrator and dryer, located 12 kilometres south of Nickel West Mt Keith. Employees at Cliffs reside at the Mt Keith village. There’s plenty to keep you entertained in the Mt Keith Village. Take the heat off the day and head to the pool – or join in any number of social activities

As part of our commitment to health and safety Nickel West Cliffs is a smoke free operation and has a clean shaven policy.

About You

  • Tertiary qualification in Geology or Geoscience, preferably accompanied by previous experience in a similar role;
  • Background in hard rock mining is essential – previous exposure to an underground mining will be beneficial;
  • Demonstrated experience in grade control within Underground Operations;
  • High level of computer literacy- experience using Datamine RM and Acquire will be highly regarded;
  • Current Australian Manual Driver's licence.
