Our strategy is to focus on creating a safe work environment where our employees feel strongly connected to our values and objectives, and where the capability of our people is key to our success.

About the role

An exciting opportunity to join the planning team at Peak Downs Mine, BMA’s premier operation in the Bowen Basin. Working across Drill and blast or Truck and Shovel planning areas, come and be part of a high performing team that designs, plans and schedules the 12.5Mtpa Peak Downs operation.

These roles work on a 4 on 3 off roster. The successful candidates will have options to choose from a range of company provided travel arrangements or you can also select to live residential in the nearby town of Dysart or Moranbah with subsidised accommodation options available.

Reporting to the Superintendent Planning, as a Mining Engineer in either Drill & Blast or Truck & Shovel Mine Planning teams you will be engaged in providing design, scheduling and execution direction around the +1 to 12 week time frame to our Peak Downs Operation. These roles will provide you the opportunity to gain experience in many aspects of Mine Planning; more specifically in Drill & Blast design & scheduling and Truck/Shovel Prestrip design and scheduling. Use your already solid mine planning skills and experience in these busy and challenging short-term mine planning roles to develop effective working relationships with the operational and tactical (midterm) planning teams, in order to ensure the efficient execution of your plans and schedules.

This is a great opportunity to hone your mine planning and leadership skills as well as further develop a deep understanding of the key value drivers of a large complex open cut mining operation. You will gain exposure to a variety of stripping operations and mine geology whilst seeing the results of your work being implemented. You will also have access to a supportive, inclusive and results-oriented leadership team.

Your responsibilities:
  • Prepare Drill & blast or Truck & Shovel designs and schedules for the 12 week planning horizon;
  • Build relationships with and obtain buy in from the operations teams for plans, schedules and designs;
  • Develop and follow the Production Planning standards and processes;
  • Ensure that site productivity is maximised by leveraging various key value drivers such as coal uncovery and maximising dig rate through adequate fragmentation;
  • Identify and implement Production Planning improvement initiatives;
  • Work closely with the Tactical (midterm) planning team to ensure your plan’s alignment with the annual budget;
  • Identify interactions and key enabling activities and put plans in place to manage these; and
  • Build relationships and work closely with other mine planning sub functions (Draglines, Coal Quality, Geology, Survey and medium term planning).

About You

As the successful candidate, you will have a tertiary education in Engineering and previous experience working at a large Coal Mining operation, particularly planning for Truck & Shovel and Drill & Blast fleets.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills are a must, allowing you to build relationships across departments and to communicate at all levels. A strong working knowledge of Vulcan, XACT, Blast Logic and the Microsoft Office suite is essential and previous exposure Haul Infinity software will be advantageous.

This role works on a 4 on 3 off roster. The successful candidates will have options to choose from a range of company provided travel arrangements or can also select to live residential in the nearby town of Dysart with subsidised accommodation options as well as heavily subsidised Single Person Village Accommodation in the town of Dysart will also be provided.
