About the role

BHP Mt Arthur Coal have recently commenced a $1.2Bn, 5 year contract with a Tier One Mining Services Provider at Mt Arthur South. This is a full turn-key mining contract including mine planning, drill & blast, load-haul-dump and statutory obligations all carried out by the Mining Services Provider.
BHP are looking for a Contract Mining Specialist to be part of the BHP Contract Mining Team.  With your mining or technical background you will ensure BHP is successful in maximising value with the Mining Services Provider. This is a permanent role on an 8 days on / 6 days off roster, day shift only. Located in the scenic Hunter Valley, the Contract Mining Specialist will be one of the key links between BHP and the Mining Services Provider.
Responsibilities will include:
  • Participate in safety and risk governance activities e.g. inspections and audits to ensure the Mining Services Provider meets BHP minimum HSEC standards.
  • Through in-field inspections compare Mining Service Provider performance against contractor mine schedule targets and understand performance impact drivers.
  • Communicate the 24 hour coal delivery plan to internal BHP stakeholders whilst monitoring for accuracy, conducting in-field verification and ensuring any changes are communicated in a timely manner.
  • Conduct in-field inspection to ensure the Mining Services Provider is adopting best practice through-seam coal recovery in accordance with the contract.
  • Seek to enable the Mining Services Provider to achieve their production targets through avoiding production delays, for example ensuring Company Supplied Items are provided in a timely manner.
  • Participate in operational continuous improvement forums to maximize contract performance and coal resource recovery
  • Undertake in-field activities to ensure BHP can accurately reconcile plan versus actual coal loss and dilution.


About You

The ideal candidate will have well rounded experience in mine planning, coal/ore quality, health & safety and contract administration.  While not mandatory, experience in open cut coal mining operations will be looked at favorably. You will have exposure to safety leadership and demonstrate collaborative problem solving capabilities. This position requires a driven individual who has the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, strong organisational skills and an eye for detail.A NSW Open Cut Examiners Certificate of Competence is not mandatory for this role.
