About the role

Reporting to the Superintendent Mine Services, this permanent opportunity is a Supervisory role that leads the team responsible for statutory inspections and compliance activities at the mine site.  The focus of the Open Cut Examiner Supervisor role is to oversee and ensure the effective implementation of statutory inspection processes and systems. While working collaboratively with the on-site Production Supervisors / Superintendents to manage and resolve the hazards. 

Additionally, the Supervisor plays a key role in supporting the Site Systems team in the effective development and implementation of the Safety and Health Management System  his opportunity presents the successful candidate a chance work in a dynamic leadership role where you can leverage your experience in the safety, compliance and legislative aspects of the Queensland Open Cut Examiners (OCE) qualification. You will lead a team of highly experienced open cut examiners in addition to managing the pipeline of future OCE’s. As a leader you will ensure the development and performance of your team enabling your team members to perform at their best.

This broad and challenging role will utilise your abilities to work across stakeholders and deliver on competing priorities in order to achieve mutually beneficial safety and production outcomes for the operation.

This role is based at Blackwater Mine Site on a Monday - Friday roster.

About You

You will have an unwavering commitment to safety and this will be clearly demonstrated throughout your prior experience. You will also have strong verbal communication and engagement skills and you will use your ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities on a daily basis. As the successful applicant you will also have: 
  • QLD OCE qualification (equivalent qualification that is eligible for mutual recognition or being able to get it within 12 months; ensure this is clearly identified in your resume if you hold this qualification or have commenced the mutual recognition process);
  • Previous experience working in an open cut mining environment;
  • Experience leading a team and working in a supervisory capacity with you have demonstrated expertise in ensuring accountability of the team;
  • The capability to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Being able to operate under pressure in order to achieve the best outcomes for your team and the operation;
  • A desire to coach and lead employees pertaining to their effectiveness as well as on health and safety issues;
  • Well-developed communication and collaboration skills and an ability to work across various stakeholders;
  • A basic working knowledge of Microsoft Windows based programs including the Microsoft Office Suite; and
  • An understanding of SAP (other asset management software / processes) and the OCE Reporting Tool (OCERT) is beneficial but not required
