About IROC 

Perth City Square is home to BHP Iron Ore’s state-of-the-art Integrated Remote Operations Centre (IROC).  Our Control Centre operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week using advanced, real-time technology to enable visibility and control, across the entire Iron Ore supply chain.

About the role

Our IROC Centre in Perth is split into four teams including Rail, Plant, Mine and Drill Control. 

Due to growth we have a number of opportunities available both for experienced and Trainee Controllers. In each of the teams, your role as a Controller will report to a Supervisor and take ownership for remotely operating Iron Ore mobile or fixed plant from our IROC centre in Perth. 

Your day will include:
  • Using the Control System to operate processing plant by stopping/starting equipment, relocating equipment, reviewing production trends and troubleshooting
  • Attending safe start to understand priorities for the day and any risks to safety or production
  • Conducting a shift handover with outgoing and incoming crews
  • Conducting daily site video conferences to align on production and safety risks 
  • Review shift schedules and setting up plant to comply 
  • Conducting delay accounting throughout shift
  • Escalating any production or safety concerns 
  • Seeking improvements to the control system or team processes

Lifestyle Roster

This position will work on our Lifestyle Roster, working a pattern of days and nights, with a block of days off at the end of each swing.  

Employees on this roster enjoy two full weekends off out of four and will align to the following shift rotation: 2D2N5X, 2D3N4X, 3D2N5X. Shifts are 12.5 hours including handover and you will benefit from additional shift allowances, as part of your remuneration package. As an added benefit, those on a Lifestyle Roster will also enjoy an additional week of annual leave per year.

About You

As the successful candidate you will possess the following:
  • The ability to interpret a plan and implement it 
  • Strong communication skills across a range of mediums (radio, phone, message, shift handover documents) 
  • The ability to build relationships with stakeholders on site 
  • A superior level of personal discipline while following processes and procedures
  • Previous experience within processing plants or control operations highly desirable
  • Mining experience gained in either Fixed Plant Maintenance or Production would be beneficial 
  • Process Engineering experience would also be of interest
  • The ability to travel to site during your training period
