About the role

The Data Strategy team sets the strategic direction for Data across all of BHP and implements business and technical frameworks that maximise the value that data creates, and the speed at which the business can make use of it. Within this team, the Business Data Coach will be a champion for the BHP Data Strategy and will work with leaders and key personnel from across our Assets and Functions to communicate the strategic importance of data in enabling our corporate strategy.

About the Role: 
Passionate about data driven insights and building a data centric culture you will implement programs that will prepare our people to adopt new skills and behaviours for using, managing, and protecting data, and improving data quality in line with areas of value to our business.

Strong communication, storytelling and facilitation skills is a must-have to drive effective change programs and influence stakeholders from all levels of our business.

Key activities include;
  • Plan and execute culture and change activities (incl. communications and awareness programs) for data
  • Develop a program of activities targeted at fostering a data culture in BHP and uplift the data awareness across the organisation
  • Liasing with broader BHP change community to ensure consistency in messaging
  • Learns and becomes proficient in all relevant data quality and data protection process, roles and responsibilities
  • Developing plans for people onboarding and training for the key roles (data steward/owners)
  • Work with various data experts to curate training programs/plan
  • Responsible for developing or creating with the data SMEs on both “train the trainer” content and end-user training where required (incl. dry-runs, refresh training, etc.)
  • Work with key leadership and data roles to ensure uplift in data literary
  • Ensure data centric capability definitions are reviewed and updated periodically in line with our career framework and empower our workforce to effectively manage their career development and progression in data centric roles
  • Owner of the data vocabulary for BHP, ensuring consistent use of language

This role can be based in either Brisbane or Perth.

About You

Passionate about data and storytelling you are someone who is energised by communicating with people at all levels to increase awareness and influence the desired strategic outcomes. You will have had prior experience coaching and training business leaders and data owners/stewards on data governance topics and enabling a data culture focused on value and insights. Preferably you will have experience working within the Mining sector and understanding of the priorities of a business such as BHP.

Ideally you will have the following experience:
  • Strong experience with change management activities
  • Narrative development and storytelling
  • Expert in talent management, and learning and development
  • Training facilitation and development
  • Must be a confident communicator and presenter
  • Strong writing, editing, proofreading, layout and design, professional printing/publishing skills are essential, including the ability to present concepts verbally
  • Must possess excellent organisational and planning skills
  • Good project management and time management skills
