Automation is part of BHP's technology strategy to improve safety, build capability and further our competitive advantage. Following the successful roll out of our first fully autonomous haul truck fleet at Jimblebar in late 2017, BHP has taken up the opportunity to expand the implementation of autonomous haulage within our open-cut Goonyella and Daunia operations in Australia.AHA is looking for new team members for the project execution phases.

About the role

Reporting to the Superintendent Operations Readiness, you will be part of a core team that will accelerate the Autonomous Haulage capability growth with BHP. This role will drive rapid improvement through people, process and systems.

This role is responsible for:
  • The application of continuous improvement fundamentals for use within autonomous haulage;
  • Building a Continuous Improvement community focused on developing analytical tools to use the data generated by Autonomous vehicles;
  • Developing rhythms and routines that drive operational discipline through robust “plan, do, check and act" processes;
  • Coordinating the design and implementation of a bench marking method and tools to undertake bench marking across the business;
  • Designing a strategy and program for coaching best practice within the operations related to autonomous haulage;
  • Establishing critical key relationships with the site leadership team and supporting improvement initiatives within the operation; and,
  • Coordinating work deliver by specialists in your team ensuring alignment to our BHP continuous improvement standards.

While your role is based out of our Brisbane office, you will work at site extensively, connecting with the operations and ensuring the solutions and processes you are developing are tailored to site. In this role you will actively engage with the teams on site and develop comprehensive solutions that will enable the operational team to operate safely in an autonomous environment.

This is a great opportunity for a driven professional to be involved in BHPs growth in a cutting edge technology/mining transformation project. This position will have freedom to develop strategies and process in a new and exciting area of the business. You will be a reference point for continuous improvement and drive processes toward our BHP standards.

About You

To be successful in this role:
  • You have safety at the forefront of your mind when you develop solutions and engaging with people.
  • You understand mining operations and have experience leading continuous improvement initiatives and or projects.
  • You can communicate clearly at all level of the business and develop trusted relationship with your stakeholders.
  • Ideally you have experience in fleet management systems or autonomous haulage although this is not essential.
  • Your leadership skills will assist you in driving the team to delivering world classes processes that will set up a first class benchmark within our industry.
