About the role

An outstanding opportunity exists for an enthusiastic professional to become part of our team based in Saskatoon as a Principal, Corporate Affairs. Reporting to the Manager or Corporate Affairs, Petroleum and Legacy Assets, this role is responsible for providing leadership on the execution of Corporate Affairs requirements for the Legacy Assets portfolio in the Canada and drives performance in alignment with the assets and the functional strategic objectives. The principal, Corporate Affairs is part of a dynamic team of Government, Community and Corporate Affairs professionals that achieve results on behalf of the business.The Principal, Corporate Affairs, will have responsibility for stakeholder relations, assist in policy development and lead strategic engagement to successfully execute BHP business objectives throughout the Legacy Assets portfolio of assets.
  • Provide guidance to Manager, Corporate Affairs and the Legacy Assets team on political and community risks, opportunities and relevant mitigating actions
  • Provide Corporate Affairs input into the Legacy Assets business plans
  • Develop the Stakeholder Engagement Plans for Canadian Legacy Assets
  • Assist Legacy Assets and Petroleum business with implementation of Social Value in planning process
  • Engages state and local officials, peers, and other key influencers to educate them about our business while developing strategic partnerships for our business
  • Partners with local government, trade, civic and business organizations to advance and sustain efforts in new communities to align the social value of the business
  • Manages multiple projects/assignments simultaneously
  • Provide input to the development and execution of a government relations plan to deliver on the Petroleum Business 5 Year Plan and specific asset plans
  • Develop and implement the community development plan for Legacy Assets and Petroleum in Canada
  • Ensure compliance with Our Requirements for Community Engagement

About You

  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • 7+  years’ experience in communications, community and/or government relations, ideally in roles that required a broad global or cross-cultural focus
  • Experience in stakeholder management and planning and ability to collaborate with stakeholders across multiple sites / global locations
  • Understanding of Corporate Affairs and its role in the management of the Company’s strategy
  • Can be located in Saskatoon or Toronto
  • Ability to work independently with direct line leader in a different geographical location
  • A willingness to travel 50%-70% domestically and internationally
