About the role

The BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) is Australia's largest coal producer with various operational mine sites and a world class coal loading port at the Hay Point Coal Terminal, near Mackay in Central Queensland. As the world's largest seaborne coking coal supplier, and part of the BHP group, BMA is uniquely positioned to offer experience and career development opportunities difficult to find elsewhere.

About the role:

As part of the BMA Asset Engineering team our group is responsible for maintaining overall engineering stewardship of tailings and water retaining structures across multiple BMA operations. You will provide centralised technical support for a range of dam-related projects including new storages and remediation work, develop and maintain standards and guidelines for dam design and maintenance, advise the business on good practice, maintain a dam safety training program for the asset, and assist with compliance activities.
This position is located in Australia and for the right candidate, relocation will be provided.

About You

  • A proven commitment to safety, reflected in consistently safe work practices;.
  • Bachelor degree in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering;
  • Mine water storage dams and Tailings Storage Facilities;
  • Extensive proven experience in tailings or water storage investigation, design, construction, remediation, and operation;
  • Previous mining experience is an asset but not essential;
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to communicate effectively across multiple levels and disciplines; and
  • An open Australian driving licence is required.
About the location:

This is a Brisbane-based role with some travel to BMA’s Bowen Basin sites as needed.
