About the role

At BHP “data is the new bacon”.

Our focus on treating data as an asset has resulted in a significant push for resources capable of applying data to solving problems and driving efficiencies in our business. BHP is generating large amounts of data from different sources, your task, as a Data Engineer, is to organize the collection of data, it’s processing and drive out early insight in collaboration with our asset and functional domain experts.

Through a diverse range of project engagements you will gain exposure to various problem spaces and data domains and bring your expertise in modern data centric technologies to the table to explore, process and derive insight from data.

You will bring your expertise in modern data centric technologies to the table to explore, process, and derive insight from data. You are also an excellent communicator that can share that insight with stakeholders across the organization.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, Technology or Relevant Experience
  • Cloud certified solution architect or other cloud big data stream credential is highly regarded

Pivotal Experiences that help to get here
  • 3-5 years’ data analysis experience, profiling and querying various data sources, optimising data structures, identifying patterns, determining relationships, applying basic statistics, and presenting early insights
  • Experience manipulating datasets and using database query languages or data centric programming languages
  • Exposure to modern data centric applications and infrastructure (including enterprise data warehouses, hadoop, real time and geospatial data stores)
  • 2 years' experience with task automation tools and workflows such as Jenkins, Rundeck or similar.
  • 2 years' experience using source control tools and workflows like bitbucket or teamcity.
  • 1 years' experience developing interfaces to REST APIs is desired.
  • Knowledge of data centric PaaS solutions AWS, Azure or GCP is desired.

  • An intermediate level of English, both spoken and written.
