About the role

This newly created role will be an integral member of the Property & Workplace Centre of Excellence (COE), and be responsible for the governance of the global design development strategy, process and standards to enable the delivery of global best practice and meet business requirements. 

In the role of Principal Design, you will be accountable for: 

  • Managing the establishment of the global design practice including operating model, process architecture, and governance of standards and plans.
• Coordinating the design planning, reviews and approvals through a structured framework process (with projects team) at each stage of the design process, as defined by the BHP COE Roadmap and Project program.
• Providing scope and engaging with architects, specialist designers and engineers, and suppliers to ensure outcomes are of quality, delivered on time and value adding. 
• Establishing and leading the engagement cadence with architects, designers and project teams to simplify the design process.
• Managing external vendors and consultants to influence outcomes and deliver on best practice.
• Coordinating updates and additions to the Office Design Guidelines ensuring that current and future needs are captured and documents are updated.  This includes the development of space budgets, design metrics for reporting and benchmarking, and validation of design principles.

About You

You will have a depth of experience in developing and implementing best practice design workplaces within commercially diverse portfolio’s and possess a strong knowledge of construction methodology in strategic planning and process architecture.  Your previous exposure in presenting linkages between design, real estate planning and employee engagement with financial benefits will be advantageous, along with your proven project management skills.   

By nature, you are creative, strategic and an excellent communicator who is at ease in influencing and working with a diverse range of stakeholders.  Ideally, you will also have a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Interior Design / Planning and knowledge of Space planning and Design / CAD programs would be beneficial.
