About the role

BHP has an opportunity for a Principal Engineering (EEM) to join our onsite Engineering Team at the Caval Ridge Mine.  Reporting to the Manager Engineering, this statutory role requires appointment by the Site Senior Executive (SSE). You will be responsible for controlling and managing the mine’s electrical engineering activities.  You will focus on ensuring electrical safety on site while working closely with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure the best outcome for the business.

This opportunity is being offered within the Bowen Basin located near Moranbah, Central Queensland. A Lifestyle roster and flexible travel options are on offer.

Responsibilities include:
  • Discharging your Electrical Engineering Manager (EEM) Statutory responsibilities;
  • Governing the as-built electrical blueprint and validating blueprint information at handover from all projects (engineering standards, specifications drawings, processes, systems and procedures), ensuring approved modifications of its plant, equipment and infrastructure;
  • Governing the management of change process for the operation’s electrical blueprint;
  • Providing technical advice and supporting the Maintenance and Production Departments for new projects and maintenance of existing plant and site infrastructure;
  • Ownership and governance of the fixed plant control systems network including management of bridging and overrides;
  • Ownership and governance of electrical and high voltage processes;
  • Participating in industry forums with the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy to replicate best practice where applicable;
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of engineering strategies;
  • Identifying and delivering improvement opportunities in terms of safety, culture and productivity;
  • Managing contractors and vendors in line with site and BHP processes; and 
  • Supporting the development of the site's five year capital and operational budgets.

About You

To be considered for this opportunity, you will hold relevant tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering (University or Trade) as well as hold current Queensland EEM’s statutory qualifications. You will possess demonstrable experience as an EEM in both plant and open cut coal mine environments.

With a collaborative leadership style, you will have a key focus on safety, stakeholder engagement and reliable delivery of value to the operation. With a proven exemplary safety record, you will demonstrate a professional and process based approach to electrical engineering governance and technical support. You will also have the ability to identify and execute recommendations for business improvement.
