About the role

BHP Metals Exploration, part of the world’s largest integrated resources company, is moving into an exciting period of sustainable growth and development. With a clear strategy and focus on projects from early stage concept development through to advanced exploration, we now have a newly created opportunity for a driven and passionate Principal Exploration Geologist to further develop their career and shape the exploration portfolio within one of the world's most exciting and successful exploration businesses.

As Principal Exploration Geologist within the Exploration team, you will be given the opportunity to:
  • Organise, model and interpret all geoscience data (geological, geochemical and geophysical) to provide a transparent, defendable rank and prioritisation for all projects in the country portfolio.
  • Deliver working geological models at appropriate mineral system scales for exploration projects through integration of multiple datasets.
  • Design effective exploration data acquisition plans that are project specific and permit the fastest route possible to a robust decision point for the next phase o f a project.
  • Delivery of technical excellence in exploration plan, design and data capture for all active WA projects
  • Contribute to the prospectivity analysis of focus areas for nickel and copper
  • Contribute to exploration portfolio planning and strategy

About You

To be successful in this role you will be an accomplished and highly collaborative Principal Geologist with outstanding written and verbal communication skills. You are team oriented and results focused with a demonstrated track record in influencing on exploration tactics and strategies to achieve results.

In addition, we are ideally looking for the following skills and experience:
  • An overriding commitment to health, safety environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
  • Bachelor of Science in Geology or similar. Post-graduate studies highly regarded.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the critical controls on nickel sulphide mineralisation combined with a successful exploration track record for complex mineral systems.
  • Demonstrated experience working across the diverse stages of exploration.
  • Ability to work with and synthesize large datasets and proficient in the use of geological software such as ArcGIS and Leapfrog in order to develop models.
  • Capability and aptitude to work independently, driven by personal and team objectives.
  • A skills and desire to mentor and coach others combined with the ability to engage effectively with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Operational (mine or mine development) experience will be highly regarded.
  • The ability to travel to remote work locations as and when required.
