About the role

Purpose:   
The Principal will have responsibilities under three areas:
  • Strategy: support the strategy and direction across GAS Finance including structures, future growth, team expansion, improved ways of working and continuous improvement – whilst ensuring alignment with other initiatives
  • Growth: support and project manage the transition of activities from sending locations (Business/ Marketing/Group/Tax/Treasury) to GAS and between GAS locations
  • Improvement: lead and implement continuous improvement initiatives of Finance activities within GAS whilst utilising Continuous Improvement and Change Management techniques to drive centralisation, standardisation and optimisation efforts

Core Accountabilities
  • Lead and support the strategy and direction of Finance GAS including structures, future growth, team expansion, improved ways of working and continuous improvement 
  • Support and project manage the transition of activities from sending locations (Business/ Marketing/Group/Tax /Treasury) to GAS and between GAS locations
    • Planned approach, timeline and budget that considers both risk and cost to ensure a smooth handover of activity from the Business / Function to GAS
    • Execution of transition activities including face to face handovers, stabilisation and cutover through stage gate process
    • Development of a change impact assessment and execution of resulting actions 
    • Ensure proper controls, standards, risk management, and efficient processes are in place to manage the transition and successful business as usual delivery
    • Drive the recruitment selection process, induction and training of new GAS Finance based staff
    • Wiring of interfaces with relevant stakeholders
  • Lead the improvement of Finance activities within GAS utilising Continuous Improvement and Change Management techniques to drive centralisation, standardisation and optimisation efforts:
    • Lead and manage the identification, prioritization and execution of improvement opportunities across GAS Finance to centralise, standardise, optimise and simplify teams and activity
    • Develop project plans, business cases and frame value opportunities to support key changes to Finance processes, systems, structures etc.
    • Lead workshops to capture business requirements, facilitate wiring map processes and develop and implement plans for improvements
    • Monitor and communicate the effectiveness and value of continuous improvement initiatives delivered through projects post implementation
    • Drive and support organisation, cultural and innovation change for Finance GAS
    • Provides advice to GAS Finance leadership about the portfolio of programs and projects, status (including risks) and resource planning for delivery
    • Develops resourcing plan to enable effective delivery of GAS Finance projects within committed time, scope and budget
    • Collaborate across the Finance function and across GAS to influence key decision-makers and drive an improvement agenda for end to end process standardisation and improvement
    • Build continuous improvement capability within the immediate GAS Finance team and in the broader function via coaching and mentoring through including routines in project plans
    • Coaches Project stakeholders in developing schedules, generating baselines, identifying risks to project milestone fidelity, and tracking project budget, schedule and scope
    • Continuously improves project management and continuous improvement toolkits and methodologies and ensures consistency of application through standards, structure, and rigor
    • Lead the promotion and embedment of a continuous improvement framework and culture in GAS Finance teams through inclusion in project plans to improve risk, productivity and business outcomes 
    • Assess project performance through developing and reporting appropriate metrics
    • Build and leverage strong cross-functional relationships to enable a collaborative approach to issue identification, escalation and resolution   
    • Participate in outside professional forums/activities to maintain knowledge on developments that could be adopted 
  • An overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development 
  • Liaise with key stakeholders and provide assistance with various issues, queries and requests to Senior Leadership Team 
  • Lead and develop team members
  • Governance oversight ensuring compliance BHP Accounting Polices and GLDs
  • Lead and develop a BHP culture for new teams in KL and Manila

About You

Qualifications
  • Degree level qualification in a business, operational or engineering related discipline 
  • Finance body certification (CA / CPA / CIA, etc.) or post graduate qualification (MBA)
  • Continuous Improvement / Lean / Six Sigma or equivalent accreditation (Preferably Black Belt but Yellow and Green Belts are open to apply) 

Experience & Technical Competencies
  • Minimum 5-10 years of experience in related subject matter  
  • Experience in project management, stakeholder management and continuous improvement 
  • Experience with shared service functions preferred
  • Experience with SAP 
  • Solid base in financial and managerial accounting
  • Petroleum and/or Mining industry experience preferred but not required
  • Experience in leading teams, directly or indirectly (~5 FTE)

Non-Technical Competencies:
  • Fluent English, both verbal and written
