About the role

The Integrated Pore Pressure team is primarily responsible for the PPFG prediction and 1D geomechanical evaluation to facilitate planning and drilling of wells across the conventional business, with a strong focus on data integration and analysis, across all projects. 

The Pore Pressure team will work as part of a multidisciplinary team within the BHP W&SD group, integration of geological and geophysical data with assets to deliver integrated IPP team work products. It will involve basin analysis thru prospect generation activities, exploration, appraisal, and production PPFG work. In addition, the pore pressure team is expected to actively monitor drilling activities via team processes.

This is a grade 11 role

In this role you will:
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in IPP work processes to facilitate safety of BHP well plans, consistent with the goal of zero harm to people and environment.
  • Promote safety in all work environments and across the broader geoscience community, ensuring activities are undertaken in a safe manner in line with petroleum policies and group GLD’s (Our Requirements).
  • Reporting to the Pore Pressure Manager, will lead and manage deliver safe and reliable IPP work product analysis by providing predrill regional and well interpretation, operations well support and post well analysis integration for assigned conventional Petroleum wells.
  • Develop and maintain Integrated Pore Pressure, Fracture Gradient analysis for assigned conventional opportunities/development consistent with subsurface team interpretations and understandings.
  • Provide robust self-directed 1D geomechanical work products such as well bore stability and fracture re-opening estimates and reconciliations.
  • Provide IPP Team work products in keeping with the protocol for real time monitoring for the drilling of all conventional wells via interface with 3rd party vendor.
  • Develop and work in synergy with the Geohazards team by providing reliable and consistent geological risk assessment to stakeholders.
  • In conjunction with the Pore Pressure Manager and Assurance, contribute to technical oversight via peer reviews
  • Originate and lead IPP and/or W&SD CI initiatives.
  • Develop effective working relationships within the overall W&SD team; ensure consistency across WPT teams to provide effective and high standard deliverables and communications.
  • Develop effective network within BHP – focusing on interfaces with W&SD, Geological Operations, Exploration, Appraisal, Production, TAC and other disciplines.
  • Support Conventional Petroleum by developing effective network with JV partners, regulatory agencies and technical service providers to ensure expedited support / approvals, as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain employees’ professional and technical expertise by helping pore pressure manager in effective coaching, formal training as required and mentoring.
  • Follow company’s best practices.

About You

  • Master's or greater in Geoscience or Bachelor's or greater in Engineering
  • A proven professional in PPFG and 1D Geomech well based work
  • Demonstrated delivery of work products in BHP current and future heartlands with little oversight.
  • Skilled-level understanding and application of concepts and principles in PPFG and 1D Geomech well based work, and how they integrate within your broader group
  • Skilled-level understanding and application of earth stress concepts from theory to quantitative estimates
  • Developing mastery of Predict software.
  • Developing knowledge of concepts and principles in other related disciplines
  • Evaluate complex situations using multiple sources of information
  • Developed communication skills to exchange complex information
  • Developed diplomacy skills used to direct, persuade and influence others
  • Developing mentoring and coaching ability.
