About the role


Reporting to the Head of Geoscience Excellence within our Global Technical Centre of Excellence, in this strategic and highly visible role, the successful candidate will be instrumental in defining and influencing global leading practice in the understanding and application of mineral systems to the access, appraisal and extraction of mineral resources. As a trusted Advisor and Subject Matter Expert, you will have the opportunity to drive the following activities:
  • Leadership in the understanding of mineral systems and linkages between mineral and petroleum systems within and external to BHP.
  • Development of the awareness and capability of BHP geoscientists in the application of mineral systems to resource exploration and extraction.
  • Building of trusted relationships with BHP exploration/access and appraisal groups.
  • Identification of key gaps in the understanding of mineral systems and maintenance of research roadmaps to influence allocation of resources to research and development initiatives.
  • Influence, Lead and Manage Fundamental Geoscience research to address knowledge deficiencies identified collaboratively with asset or functional peers.

About You

Highly respected and globally networked Professional with a reputation built upon scientific depth and breadth, academic leadership, subject matter expertise and innovation. 
With your ability to build strategic and collaborative partnerships across both academic and industry communities, you enjoy playing an integral role in influencing the research and application of mineral systems science.
In addition, to be successful in this role, you will ideally possess the following:
  • Postgraduate degree qualification in a geoscience related field
  • Demonstrated high level of understanding of fundamental geoscience
  • Demonstrated involvement in teams achieving innovative breakthroughs in understanding or applying of mineral systems science
  • Demonstrated experience in the application of mineral systems to influencing business decisions in the exploration for or development of mineral resources.
  • A passion for mentoring and coaching geoscientists.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt to new concepts.

Location
Perth - City Square

Ideally based in Perth, Western Australia, in the multi award winning office tower - ‘City Square’. You will have stunning river views from your modern open plan office, state of the art facilities including virtual whiteboards and video conferencing facilities, 550 bicycle racks with ample lockers, showers and change room amenities and a large outdoor terrace with barbecues.
