About the role

Purpose:

Key Human Resources Advisor to ensure Non-Major Locations (NML) countries receive the right Business Partner, HR Consulting and Labor Relation support aligned with business strategy/growth portfolio and legal country requirements.


Core Accountabilities:
  • Demonstrate an overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
  • Ensure conformance with the BHP Charter, Standards/Procedures, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations.
  • Advise senior leaders in non-major locations on HR topics including culture (I&D), talent pipeline, performance, reward, organisational design, capability (coaching and leadership effectiveness) and Employee Relations (ER) strategy to support high performance and resolve issues.
  • Advise senior leaders in non-major locations on strategic people decisions facing their business or function. 
  • Assist leaders to identify strategic priorities requiring HR support and support HR Operations to plan and prioritize HR resources to support the delivery of strategic priorities, helping to connect the business with the HR function to drive alignment of strategy and execution plans. 
  • Liaise as single point of accountability for non-major locations with the HR Operations team to raise Business Partnering, Consulting and Labor Relations concerns to develop local labor frameworks aligned with our BHP culture and ways of working.
  • Lead and support the identification, development and delivery of improvement initiatives around HR processes to leverage as much as we can the current services provided by our HR Operating Model and advocating for the emerging HR needs in each of the non-major locations.
  • Coach and influence stakeholders through change and engage with key senior business stakeholders and authorities/government entities to proactively inform & understand local context for strategy alignment and compliance requirements.
  • Provide end-to-end Employee Relation support through legal vendors in Brazil, Ecuador and Peru to ensure understanding of legal HR context, workforce requirements and legal commitments with governments/authorities. 
  • Advise Employee Relations negotiations or complex disciplinary cases to support line managers on performance improvement and disputes in these locations.
  • Provide customers with a seamless 'One HR BHP' experience and enabling better measurement of work (e.g. outsourced payroll) as well as an improved workforce culture in our non-major locations. 
  • Work closely with Organisation Sustainability to understand and support BHP strategy, framework and approach to culture, capability, organisational design and workforce transition. 

About You

Qualifications:
  • Tertiary qualification in a business management or related discipline.

Experience and Technical Skills:
  • 7+ years of experience in similar positions.
  • Manages multiple tasks simultaneously, maintaining a balance between current and future priorities.
  • Communicates effectively with key stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Influences and negotiates positive project outcomes with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Strong execution capability to develop and conduct HR initiatives.
  • Wide range of HR topics and country specific knowledge is desirable (Ecuador, Peru and Brazil).
  • Business acumen around industry and HR service delivery.
  • English, Spanish and Portuguese (native ideally).
  • Senior stakeholder engagement, relationship building, and executive coaching skills.
  • Managing service partners, vendors and contractors to achieve business priorities.
  • Strategic problem-solving skills (detailed analysis, well-reasoned judgement, and  decision making skills with attention to detail) including the ability to identify and recommend improvements.
  • Project management experience.
  • Working as part of a geographically dispersed team and working experience in South America – Brazil, Ecuador and Peru desirable.
