About the role

Be part of a great team helping to shape the future of work at BHP and beyond! Reporting to the Vice President Health and Hygiene and playing a key role as a member of the Global Health Leadership team, help shape the Company strategy that will deliver a better work environment for all BHP workers.   From delivering upon our mental health strategy, fundamentally changing the way we evaluate and monitor the effectiveness of our exposure controls, to defining what good work looks like, this role is critical to making sure every worker goes home safe and well.  

In this role you will:  
  • Support the Health VP to make sure the company is appropriately positioned to deliver on its overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development
  • Support the Health VP  to make sure BHP Billiton is appropriately positioned with respect to occupational health and hygiene such that risks are mitigated and opportunities captured
  • Coordinate Health Leadership Team and support the development of health inputs into the annual and 5-year global HSE plans including functional capability
  • Lead one of the Company’s strategic working groups to deliver one of our global priorities.
  • Support global working groups and cross-functional teams to enable delivery of the global HSE plans and initiatives
  • Maintain Health Our Requirements such that BHP remains appropriately positioned on key occupational health issues
  • Support VP Health in setting up processes to deliver on Group Risk Representative responsibilities
  • Analyse and trend health and hygiene data and report quarterly and additionally as required
  • Manage Health content for Sustainability report
  • Act as the critical control owner for Material Risk management that supports BHP’s HSE framework
  • Provide input to the HSE component of the internal audit plan to ensure that all major occupational health risks are adequately managed
  • Liaise with and influence Business HSE VPs and Line managers to understand health and hygiene risks and influence the development of risk controls
  • Develop and maintain effective networks with key external stakeholders (industry bodies, government, regulatory bodies, NGOs) in order to ensure effective influencing strategies to support the company’s position on key issues
  • Provide expert strategic advice to management in response to major incidents/issues with the potential to impact on BHP’s global reputation

About You

To be successful in this role you will care deeply about our people and are passionate about creating a great place to work. We are looking for someone with senior-level operational experience and demonstrable hands-on experience and success in delivering occupational health and hygiene frameworks and leading organisational health and hygiene practices. Ideally you will have experience working in multiple countries, cultures and regulatory regimes.

You will have deep technical expertise and extensive knowledge of occupational health / hygiene management systems, performance measures and emerging issues. You will possess excellent written & verbal communication skills. Spanish is an asset. A degree in health science or related field is required. An accreditation in Occupational Hygiene recognised by International Occupational Hygiene Association or recognised Post graduate qualifications in Occupational Health is desirable.
