About the role

Growth's mandate is to characterize/mature captured plays/prospects, frame and execute resource appraisal plans that reduce resource uncertainty and identify the preferred development concept.

The Canada Exploration team is seeking a Principal I Reservoir Engineer to work with a multi-discipline exploration team to evaluate producing fields as analogues, address key value drivers, create scoping development concepts and facilitate decisions required for well planning and data acquisition.  The candidate will use their skills and work history to describe fluid properties and range of recoverable volumes, including production profiles, highlighting the uncertainty between various cases and development options.

This is a grade 11 role. The primary focus of this role is discipline lead within the Eastern Canada Exploration team.

In this role you will:
  • Lead engineering evaluation in support of Eastern Canada team including prospect maturation, well planning and analogue field/failure evaluations
  • Interpret and integrate pressure and fluid data from nearby analogue fields for later use in recovery estimation of Exploration prospects
  • Integrate subsurface geologic parameters, petrophysical interpretation and pressure/fluid data to derive ranges for well production profiles and to inform development scenarios
  • Focus on defining the full range of possible outcomes and capturing that uncertainty in ranges provided for full risk and volume estimates
  • Work closely with Exploration team to ensure all volumetric and risk inputs are consistent and confident
  • Lead reservoir deliverability risk assessment for volume, risk and value workflow.
  • Incorporate learnings from the industry and BHP from production to exploration
  • Collaborate with technical assurance and projects team to improve efficiency and ensure that work remains focused on key value drivers

About You

  • A proven professional with 10+ years of experience working preferred as a Reservoir Engineer in exploration, appraisal or production
  • Track record of proactive engagement
  • Conventional exploration/appraisal and or producing asset experience is preferred
  • Strong reservoir engineering skill set with experience in operations and geology to help aid in prospect maturation and optimize value workflow
  • Experience with using fit for purpose analogue data for use in evaluations
  • Experience with a range of modelling techniques ranging from DCA, to material balance, to 3D models
  • Comfortable with high degree of uncertainty at the early stages of subsurface work
  • Able to balance optimism and conservatism in order to represent the full range of possible outcomes
  • Evaluate complex situations using multiple sources of information
  • Developed communication skills to exchange complex information
  • Mentoring and coaching ability
