About the role

Working with key stakeholders across Technology to support and maintain BHP’s global IT hosting environment to support business outcomes.Reporting to the Manager IT Hosting Operations, your key accountabilities will include:
  • Managing the onshore support resources based in Houston, with shift handover to Australia to provide 24 x 7 follow-the-sun support
  • Managing offshore support teams to ensure exception serviced delivery of operational activities
  • Act as the escalation point for major incidents
  • Approving change requests
  • Ensuring Problems are identified, recorded, and resolved
  • Oversee patching, audit, and compliance activities
  • Ensuring configuration management data is maintained & accurate
  • Driving improvements in Incident management, change & Service Request Management trends
  • Driving automation activities
  • Managing the transition to operations for equipment & services delivered by the project team
  • Embedding the desired culture throughout the teams, both offshore and onshore

About You

To be successful in this role, you are likely to have held a similar position leading geographically dispersed virtual teams in a global organisation previously. You have superior interpersonal, communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence stakeholders across all organisational levels, including senior management. Excellent documentation and report writing skills are a requirement for this role.  You are a proactive self-starter and an excellent team player with the ability to manage ambiguity and drive what’s best for the company with minimal day to day guidance and oversight.

As the preferred candidate, you will have managed offshore service providers in the past. You are action-oriented, calm under pressure, and able to drive results while developing a workplace culture that motivates others. Demonstrated continuous improvement through a process-oriented service delivery mindset will be beneficial. You will have supported large scale mission-critical server, storage and network environments such as SAP and High-Performance Computing environments in the past, ideally within mining or oil and gas.

You will have a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or similar discipline and possess an ITIL (preferably v3) professional certification. Any additional professional certifications such as Cisco, Microsoft, VMWare, Citrix, Amazon or equivalents will be well regarded. You have substantial (10+ years) post qualification IT experience and possess deep knowledge and practical experience of core hosting technology such as:
  • Server & blade hardware
  • Storage (SAN, NAS, DAS)
  • Backup & Recovery / Data Protection Services
  • Converged & Hyper-converged infrastructure
  • VMware virtualisation
  • Windows
  • Red Hat Linux
  • CITRIX presentation services
  • Amazon, Azure or Google Cloud Services
  • SCOM, SCCM, Splunk & other management tools
  • Knowledge & practical experience with the following would also be advantageous, though not essential:
  • Network technologies – Infiniband, Fiber Channel, load balancing, switching and routing technologies.
  • Middleware, database, and applications - Understanding how they may interact with other dependent systems (e.g. Understand what a multitier application is and how SQL high availability configuration would have a reliance on an Active / Active datacentre configuration)
  • Automation Technologies – Ansible, vRealize Automation, vRealize Orchestrator, or similar
  • Experience with driving operational improvements through the use of Lean, Agile & DevOps methodologies & practices (e.g. performance boards, Kanban boards, etc.)
