About the role

We now have a number of opportunities for operations leadership development specialists to work across our operations supporting front-line leaders, including Supervisors and Superintendents, through coaching, training and the implementation of the Mastery Program. The purpose of the Principal Instructor Leadership is to build high and consistent levels of leadership skills and knowledge at the operations front line. The work of this role includes:
  • Leading ongoing development and implementation of the Operations Services Mastery Program, particularly in relation to leadership and safety.
  • The development, improvement and integrity of Leadership and Safety Standards and related resources including upskilling resources and verification tools and practices.
  • Collaborating with key stakeholders to develop resources and methods for upskilling front line leaders to work consistently to the established Leadership and Safety Standards.
  • Carrying out leadership and safety performance verifications against operations leadership Standards at the frontline including coaching others in assessment and verification processes.
  • Developing, tailoring and facilitating leadership and teamwork training programs in line with business and broader BHP people strategies.
  • Providing advice, support and coaching to frontline leaders on the continued application of leadership tools and behaviours and relevant process improvement methods.
  • Continuous monitoring of operations frontline leader performance and initiating the necessary input or support to ensure Leadership and Safety Standards are achieved and maintained.
  • Encouraging and leading productive collaboration across the Maintenance and Production Instructors and Training teams through informal processes as well as formal forums and routines. 
  • Working with the Operations Services Leadership Team to build leadership capability across the business.

About You

The successful candidate will have or be:
  • A strong track record as a leader, at least at Superintendent level in mining operations, preferably across multiple sites in production and / or maintenance.
  • A skilled coach, trainer and adviser with the ability to tailor resources to maximize their effectiveness in the workplace.
  • A good understanding of, and proven skills in leading or facilitating work process analysis and improvement.
  • Considerable experience and skills in the use of technology in managing work processes, data capture and performance reporting.
