About the role


Working with key stakeholders across Technology to support and maintain BHP’s Operational Technology Hosting environment to support business outcomes. Reporting directly into the Manager, OT Hosting Operations Australia this role has responsibility for maintaining the production integrity of BHP’s Operational Technology hosting environment.  Ensuring that the servers, storage, backup, hypervisors, and tools are maintained, reliable and continuously improved to enable the processes that support Mining, Logistics and key Business Functions of BHP.
In this role, your key accountabilities will include:
  • Provide technical leadership, direction and governance in ensuring the OT Hosting maintenance strategy is in line with current and future state business requirements
  • Ensure consistent production outputs by maintaining OT hosting environments to the best-in-class levels of reliability following lean maintenance and ITIL principles
  • Develop and coach our technology specialists to the highest professional standards, so they become our future technical experts and leaders
  • Apply effective risk controls to identify potential threats and minimise or remove production impact
  • Champion hosting automation activities
  • Drive the documentation, audit & compliance and standardisation of hosting infrastructure
  • Act as the escalation point for major incidents, changes and problems
  • Assess and approve change requests
  • Implement and improve Service Management processes to drive consistent performance
  • Manage the transition to operations for equipment & services delivered by project teams
  • Positively influence and shape the culture to ensure a safe, productive, simple and fun workplace


About You

To be successful in this role, you will have proven experience in the IT industry with a focus on business-critical operations preferably in Operational Technology. A tertiary qualification in Computer Science/Engineering or related discipline is a requirement for this role. Any professional certifications (Cisco, Microsoft, VMWare, EMC, NetApp, Citrix, Amazon or equivalents) will be well regarded as will ITIL v3. As the preferred candidate, you can demonstrate practical experience with infrastructure services (Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, NTP, SCOM, SCCM, Splunk). Most importantly, you will have deep knowledge and practical experience in one of the four core hosting technologies groups listed below:  
  1. Compute: Converged & Hyper-converged infrastructure, VMWare, Windows & Red Hat Linux
  2. Storage: NetApp, EMC Isilon and HDS
  3. Backup & Recovery: Commvault, Data Domain and Avamar
  4. Citrix presentation services 
Knowledge & practical experience with the following would also be advantageous, though not essential:
  • Operational Technologies – Programmable Logic Controllers, IIOT Sensors, SCADA, Fleet Management, Digital Radio and Process Control Networks.
  • Automation Technologies – Ansible, vRealize, Chef or similar
  • Experience with driving operational improvements through the use of Lean, Agile, SRE & DevOps methodologies & practices (e.g. SCRUM, Kanban boards, etc.)
