About the role

Technology is responsible for maintaining the operating integrity of BHP production and non-production IT and OT systems. These systems are tightly integrated with the processes that support the mining, logistics and key Business functions of the business. 

The Principal Operations - Autonomy is an expert in the field of Autonomous Systems and owns the end to end service within the sub function and assists the business in meeting its objectives by providing a stable, reliable and secure environment. This role provides leadership and guidance to the technical resources in support of operational and projects teams.  

This role also approves the maintenance strategies, plans strategy, plan and schedules within the area of responsibility for all deployed technologies to ensure autonomous systems are maintained, and equipment and infrastructure is maintained in compliance with, work instructions and defined processes, and work schedules to achieve optimal maintenance outcomes.

The Principal Operations - Autonomy is responsible for: 
  • Safe systems of work, utilising existing work management processes delivering against performance targets, while aligning with business requirements;
  • The management and governance of Autonomous Systems (Drills & Fleet) 
  • Provides leadership support and guidance in maintaining Autonomous Systems policy, process and procedures;
  • Develops/maintains technology standards and processes for Autonomous Systems;
  • Manages relevant outsourced vendor agreements and services as directed by the Superintendent;
  • Provides input into the financial budget and targets for infrastructure lifecycle refresh and optimize costs;
  • Responsible for the execution of safe systems of work, utilizing existing work management processes;
  • Responsible for the safe execution of Incidents, as escalated by operations and maintenance activities that reduce failure rates (MTBF) and downtime of IT/OT equipment across BHP Copper;
  • Executes 1SAP Work Management and Service Management operational processes to drive consistent service delivery for the entire scope of accountabilities; and
  • Manages ongoing technology delivery to service level agreements from projects to application and asset owners.

About You

  • Trade/Tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Business, Engineering or related discipline or equivalent IT/OT experience 
  • ITIL Certification preferred but not essential

Experience required
  • Previous experience in managing Autonomous Systems within the mobile technology and mining environment
  • Exposure/experience in Safety ideally in the Mining or the Resources Industry
  • Previous experience in operational support of mission critical services in large scale environments, preferably mining/resources  
  • At least 5 years relevant post-qualification experience (i.e. preferably in mining within an Operational Technology function)
  • At least 5 years’ experience in Mobile Control Systems including autonomous systems, e.g. Atlas Copco Surface Manager,  Epiroc Modular (Dispatch, Provision, Minecare), CAT MineStar Command. 
  • Understanding of safe maintenance processes, and the maturity levels of a maintenance organisation
  • Wireless Radio Systems (LTE, Wifi, WiMAX) experience related to OT (Mining) in a Mobile environment.
  • Infrastructure/network management experience in IT and / or process control in a large and remote environment.
  • Familiarity of ServiceNow (or familiarity with ITSM systems) and SAP
  • Proven track record in delivery of support services.
  • Knowledge, use and configuration of Asset Health Monitoring Tools  
  • Problem solving and understanding of root cause analysis techniques
  • Proven track record in delivery of support services
  • Strong experience with contractor management and performance management
  • Experience in developing and managing to budget.
