Then this is an excellent opportunity for you to join BHP's Portfolio Strategy & Development function as part of the Melbourne based team. The team supports work across the different parts of the Portfolio Strategy & Development function, including Decision Evaluation, Strategy & Market Intelligence, Corporate Planning, Business Development, and Acquisitions & Divestments. This role is more focussed on supporting the Decision Evaluation discipline. The purpose of Decision Evaluation discipline is to lead decision evaluation activities across the Company so that the value of every business decision is clear and well informed.  We achieve this by providing independent, robust and high quality evaluations of proposed investment opportunities taking into account risks and uncertainties.  To maximize our influence we operate in a collaborative and commercially astute way.  We are seeking candidates at Principal level to join our team with both full-time and part-time opportunities available.

Reporting to one of the Heads of PS&D, the Principal PS&D will come from a diverse range of backgrounds including consulting, investment banking, planning, corporate finance or engineering. Irrespective of background, they will be able to offer commercial insight, analytical expertise and strategic thinking and have strong communication and influencing skills. Their primary accountabilities will be to create shareholder value by framing, evaluating and clearly communicating the risks and returns for capital allocation decisions, global functional initiatives and transactions to senior decision-makers. Working either independently or in cross-functional project, planning or transaction teams, they will be required to influence and challenge thinking, prepare concisely written reports and clearly articulate outputs and insights to senior management and other key stakeholders.

About You

You will have successfully completed a technical or business related undergraduate degree:  a broadening post graduate qualification will be viewed favourably.  Experience within the resources, manufacturing or other process-driven industry would be an advantage but is not essential. We value diversity in thinking and your career to date will testify to your ability to demonstrate strong critical reasoning skills, quickly grasp technical concepts and apply theories.  You will be able to demonstrate strong business acumen and a solid understanding of corporate finance theory and its practical application to investment evaluation.  Energetic and driven, you work well under pressure bringing attention to detail and an ability to manage multiple and competing deadlines.  You are able to build rapport and establish credibility through your strong technical ability and engaging style, allowing you to communicate confidently and build strong working relationships. You have a high proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint applications.
