About the role

BHP Technology is a global function accountable for the development and delivery of company-wide technology systems and services to BHP businesses and functions.

For this opportunity as Principal Program Project Delivery you will plan, guide, execute, and coordinate activities to manage programs of work from its initiation to full integration with business as usual, including application of appropriate BHP methodologies and governance.

This role will be responsible for the execution of technology components embedded in minor or major capital projects, which include all the layers in ISA-95 from level 1 up requiring general knowledge of Control Systems (PLCs, DCS, SCADA), Technology Infrastructure (servers, fibre optics, communications, radio communications, etc.), Automation Manufacturing Execution Systems, ERP and Business Applications (this will depend on the nature of the minor or major capital project). 

Each program of work is composed by individual initiatives that could be led by other Project Managers under the same Technology sub-functions or could be a different, so this role will be the responsible to coordinate the different Technology sub-functions to ensure the proper program of work delivery.

Furthermore, the expectations of the Principal Program Project Delivery role are to;
  • Guide and oversee Project Managers in the execution of their individual initiatives that conform the program of work
  • Ensure programs are aligned to strategic vision of the Technology team.
  • Develop and own program schedules, budget and program charters. This includes the review and approval of individual project plans developed by Project Managers
  • Manage program resources, identifying resource needs, develop resource plans with stakeholder(s), and on board approved resources onto the project
  • Lead on site execution, ensuring compliance with global BHP safety programs such as Field Leadership Program
  • Manage vendor relationship controlling performance and deliverables
  • Lead the execution of BHP processes for project management ensuring a smooth transition to operation
  • Identify and own material risks and ensures adequate controls in place for each project
  • Manage program budget, through forecasting, actual/accrual reporting, and by explaining variances
  • Communicate program performance to leadership on Technology and business sponsor side
  • Point of contact for major issues and escalations relating to project successful resolution, engaging all relevant stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Manage change management processes to ensure proper alignment of programs to BHP procedures
  • Ensure all documentation is provided for ongoing communications both internally and externally (e.g. project plan, project charter, project schedule, project register etc.)
  • Identify and lead the implementation of improvement opportunities applicable to the program of work for which is responsible

About You

  • The successful candidate will have Degree qualified in Civil Industrial, Engineering or Management discipline. PMP or equivalent Certified is a plus.
  • A minimum of 5 years relevant professional experience, with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in Minerals or Petroleum, working in a multinational organization
  • Exceptional relationship management, consultancy and influencing skills, to drive Improvement without direct authority.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to present and discuss technical information with the business users in business language
  • Ability to enforce structure and discipline but remain flexible to situational priorities and provide timely decision-making
  • Deep expertise and a track record of success working in Planning & PMO functions for large business units (250+ people)
  • Ability to lead and work effectively in a diverse and globally dispersed virtual team environment, guiding and supporting team members
  • Experience in Control Systems, Technology Infrastructure, Automation and/or Operation Technology is a plus.
  • Fluent English and Spanish spoken and written.
  • Able to work in a 4x3 shift.
