About the role

As the Project Risk Principal you will be based in Perth offices with your team supporting the Risk Manager for Minerals Australia Projects in driving risk management practices for the development and delivery of Asset Projects.

Specifically the Risk Principal will:
  • Provide risk management discipline and governance advice driving a standard application of risk management methodology to the Projects and the region;
  • Identify and drive all risk management activities required in each project phase, to ensure integrity and risk based considerations across all aspects of project management:
  • Establish risk registers for projects and maintain quality records in local risks management systems;
  • Lead and facilitate all key risk management activities as stipulated in the Projects Internal Standard, applying consistent BHP Billiton methodology and subsequent evaluation;
  • Escalate emerging risks and issues to the appropriate level of management and the Risk Manager;
  • Support the development of Performance Standards for material risks across all types of projects;
  • Perform quality assurance of risk outputs and documentation to assess integrity, effectiveness and maturity of application of risk management methodology;
  • Monitor the status of risk and control actions established for any significant failings and weaknesses;
  • Oversee the assessment of contractor applied risk management frameworks to ensure that BHP Project objectives are met and aligned to the project risk register.

About You

The successful candidate will have a Tertiary Qualification in Engineering, Commerce or Risk Management discipline or proven heavy industry experience in project risk management environment. Your proven leadership experience, project management or specialist functional support discipline in capital intensive industries will be highly regarded.

The nature of the role requires you to be a strong leader, excellent communicator and your influencing and negotiating skills to build credibility and trust with your key stakeholders of the business. A background in coaching and mentoring high performing teams with a strong workplace safety compliance focus will be critical to the success of this position.
