About the role

You will be part of a global team that has a unique remit of unparalleled diversity and breath, working across the seven sub-functions that comprise External Affairs. This includes Legal, Corporate Affairs, Risk, Ethics & Compliance, Internal Audit, Group HSE and Group Governance. 

In the role of Principal Strategy & Planning, you will report to the Head of Strategy & Planning for External Affairs and provide superior analytical, process and systems capability to design and embed a function-wide strategy and support programs of work for External Affairs.   
Your responsibilities will include:   
  • Managing the integrated planning process for External Affairs, including delivery of the External Affairs Appraisal, 5 year plan and 2 year budget;
  • Leading function-wide performance reporting to articulate and quantify External Affairs’ value proposition, including progress against plan;
  • Supporting the design and embedment of an integrated External Affairs strategy;
  • Undertaking research to identify best practice and innovation trends globally;
  • Identifying, evaluating and prioritising best practice and innovation opportunities ensuring alignment with the integrated External Affairs strategy;
  • Identifying functional and cross-functional business problems and capability gaps;
  • Undertaking end-to-end performance analysis to identify opportunities to improve the culture, effectiveness and efficiency of External Affairs;
  • Supporting benchmarking activities, including the baselining of current metrics, data sources and reporting processes;
  • Assisting the design and delivery of function-wide programs and initiatives that improve the culture, effectiveness and efficiency;
  • Monitoring the effectiveness and value realisation of continuous improvements post deployment;
  • Building relationships with internal stakeholders to better understand functional performance requirements and strategic objectives ;  
  • Engaging key stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes in strategic planning processes; and
  • Supporting the function-wide embedment of continuous improvement methodology.

About You

Ideally, you are a business professional working in a global organisation, a large matrix structure or a management-consulting firm with demonstrated success in strategy development.  You will have experience in business transformation, planning and project management, along with a demonstrated success in operating in global multidisciplinary teams.    

As a strategic thinker with a strong commercial background, you are able to quickly navigate and understand complex issues to produce first-class business outcomes. Your relationship, negotiation and influencing building skills will be key strengths and you are able to positively impact team culture. A relevant tertiary qualification is preferred.
