About the role

You will be part of a global team that has a unique remit of unparalleled diversity and breath. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with multiple teams of External Affairs, which includes; Legal Corporate Affairs, Risk, Ethics & Compliance, Internal Audit & Advisory, Group HSE and Group Governance.
Reporting to the Head of Strategy & Planning, the Principal Strategy & Planning Operations Americas will provide the analytical, process and systems capability to support the design and embedment of function-wide strategy and related programs of work for External Affairs. You will continue to strengthen the trusted relationship between EA Strategy & Planning and our stakeholders across the region.

Core Accountabilities
  • Coordinate and support the corporate alignment planning process (CAP).
  • Support the execution of key activities in the integrated planning process for External Affairs, including regional input into components of the Appraisal, 5 year plan and 2 year budget.
  • Support regional External Affairs contribution to Asset plans.
  • Manage and undertake regional performance reporting to articulate and quantify External Affairs’ value proposition, including progress against plan.
  • Support the design regional plans for External Affairs and ensure embedment of the integrated strategy.
  • Identify and prioritize innovation opportunities regionally, ensuring alignment with the integrated External Affairs strategy. 
  • Manage and undertake end-to-end performance analysis to identify opportunities to continuously improve the culture, effectiveness and efficiency of regional External Affairs teams.
  • Support benchmarking activities, including the baselining of current metrics, data sources and reporting processes.
  • Support the delivery of function-wide programs and improvement initiatives, as well as monitor post deployment effectiveness and value realization.
  • Build relationships with internal stakeholders to better understand functional performance requirements and achieve desired outcomes in strategic planning processes.
  • Support the function-wide embedment of continuous improvement methodology.

About You

  • Relevant tertiary or post graduate qualification in a Business-related discipline.

Experience & Technical Competencies
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, project management and change management.
  • Experience in Business transformation and understanding of continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Excellent relationship and communication skills; ability to work effectively and build strong relationships with a range of different stakeholders across levels, teams, geographies, cultures.
  • Problem solving mindset; this position is well suited to individuals who possess the ability to think strategically about business problems and take a structured, pragmatic and hands-on approach to crafting solutions.
  • Ability to synthesise complex information, provide quality analysis, and support the execution of strategy and planning activities.
  • Self-motivated with an adaptable approach; you will be a highly adaptable and agile team player who is able to deal with ambiguity and work autonomously; whilst being an active part of a dynamic team environment.
  • A sound understanding of BHP’s Requirements and Operating Model is preferred but not essential.
  • Advanced capability using Excel, PowerPoint, Word & 1SAP.
  • Advanced Spanish and English language, oral and written proficiency.
