About the role

As the Principal Tailings Engineer/Tailings Engineer you be responsible for ensuring optimal dam safety management is in place for all tailings and water dams within BHP Nickel West portfolio, including governance to Our Requirements for Water and Tailings Storage Facilities and Environment and Climate Change, adapted for the specific needs and conditions of the Business .  
You will manage and coordinate with key internal and external stakeholders including, but not limited to: Engineer of Record(s), site based Responsible Dam Engineers, Business and Asset Leadership teams, BHP global Practice Lead, Dams Taskforce and Independent Stewardship Boards In this role you will:
  • Support and coach the site based Response Dam Engineers in the safe operation of tailings and water dams
  • Be the Design Risk Control Owner for Dams in the Nickel West portfolio
  • maintain technical standards, asset integrity and business processes for safe operation of tailings and water dams
  • Develop strategies and prioritize improvement programs for tailings and water dam

About You

  • Tertiary qualification in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • Technical experience in tailings dam management and operations
  • Experienced in hydrology and water management (advantageous)
  • Proactive with the ability to work within and influence teams both strategically and technically across multiple locations
  • A current driver’s license


Location 
You will be based in Perth, Western Australia, in the multi award winning office tower - ‘City Square’. You will have stunning river views from your modern open plan office, state of the art facilities including virtual whiteboards and video conferencing facilities, 550 bicycle racks with ample lockers, showers and change room amenities and a large outdoor terrace with barbecues.
