About the role

In this role, you will drive a strategic focus on technology opportunities across all of BHP globally, by maintaining a balanced consideration of emerging technologies and trends, with Operational and Business strategic priorities (includes sustainability, safety, culture, safety, portfolio, volume/productivity and cost). The outcome of this will ultimately set and maintain BHP’s technology strategy to grow a competitive and sustainable advantage.
Reporting to the Head of Technology Strategy, your key accountabilities will include:
  • Set the Company-wide strategy and overarching narrative of the long-term competitive advantage delivered via technology
  • Guide Assets and Functions plans that interface with the technology strategy (via the Technology Business Partners)
  • Translate the BHP technology strategy into “Concepts of Operation”, which articulate the target-states of technology applied across the business operational value chains
  • Align Technology Function technical roadmaps as part of an overall strategic approach
  • Prepare and coordinate Technology’s input into Group Portfolio Strategy & Development’s scenarios, external communications and Board engagements as it relates to the Company technology strategy
  • Regularly refresh and track progress against the strategy in delivering growth and value
  • Support the preparation of Technology Appraisal content to represent strategic priority objectives including their alignment to a broader longer-term target-state, and anchored to business value priorities including sustainability, safety, culture, safety, portfolio, volume/productivity and cost
We have multiple Strategy positions available at different levels (from 5 to 10+ years’ experience) and at multiple locations across Australia.

About You

As the preferred candidate, you will have 5+ years post-qualification experience in a Strategic Consulting, Business Analyst or similar role. A degree is a mandatory requirement for this position, preferably in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) subject. An MBA or equivalent post-graduate qualification will be well regarded. You will be customer-centric and possess superior interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills with the ability to influence, and build credibility and trust across all organisational levels.

In this role, you will take a pragmatic approach to achieve strategic goals and can translate and implement those into compelling business cases.  You can demonstrate your ability to draft executive and investor level briefings that concisely articulate the strategic technology priorities and target-state direction of the BHP technology strategy. Experience working in a multinational environment, including communicating across a variety of audiences and geographically dispersed business, will be advantageous.

To be successful in this role, you will have a broad knowledge of emerging technologies and potential for business transformation at scale. You can demonstrate your ability to structure and assess strategic options, complex design problems and priorities. A holistic and strategic business value-chain understanding is critical. Experience with business transformation and organisational change to manage and maximise the effectiveness of global design impacts on people and culture will be advantageous. Your systems thinking approach and ability to translate technology strategic opportunities and options to financial and value statements will see you thrive in this role.
