About the role

The Strategic Communications team plays a critical role in Corporate Affairs, working closely with the CEO and Leadership team to deliver Company-wide communications focused on the strategic priorities of the business including our transformation agenda, diversity and inclusion, social value and brand.

Given the formation of the Transformation Office and Advisory Group and its strategic importance to BHP, the role of Principal Transformation Communications will be a member of the Transformation Communications team where you will develop effective communications strategies and content, working closely with the Transformation Office and Advisory Group. Reporting to the Manager Transformation Communications, you will play a key role in shaping the narrative for a critical component of our Transformation agenda, Value Chain Automation.  In the role of Principal Transformation Communications, you will be responsible for: 
  • Supporting the Transformation Communications Manager to develop and implement communication approach and plans for Company-wide strategic initiative to support the programs within the Transformation Office with a focus on VCA.
  • Managing day-to-day employee and stakeholder communications with a strong editorial focus including presentations, case studies, communications plans, collateral, and reports.
  • Developing and delivering internal communications campaigns to support the strategic objectives of the Transformation initiatives.
  • Developing and maintaining trusted relationships with key internal stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ensuring all communications content and materials are delivered in line with Our Requirements for Communications, Our Requirements for Market Disclosure, as well as Our Charter values.
  • Providing communication guidance and coaching to senior stakeholders to enhance leadership communications and effectiveness.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have a passion for communications, with experience gained in a global heavy-industry environment, preferably with some operational experience. You will have solid experience in developing clear and simple communications strategies, be an exceptional writer with the ability to tailor for traditional and digital channels and diverse audiences, and have excellent business partnering and project/time management skills.

Your listening skills will be a key strength as will your attention to detail and your ability to work autonomously. Under pressure, you stay calm while juggling multiple tasks and deadlines, and are at ease in managing ambiguity. Additionally with your strong relationship building skills, you are able to positively put constructive feedback into practice. A relevant tertiary qualification is preferred.
