About the role

Reporting to the Superintendent Production Processing, you will provide the interface between Production Execution, Mine Scheduling, Integrated Operations and Marketing relating to the development, communication and execution of the short-term plans, production schedule optimisation, and production forecasting to enable effective operation of the Coal Handling & Processing Plant (CHPP).

Please note this position is based at BMA Daunia Mine, operating on a 8/6 roster. In this role you will:
  • Display visible safety leadership, engaging, developing and supporting your team;
  • Leverage your plant knowledge and experience to analyse and improve processing systems to minimise lost opportunity in coal recovery and production volume;
  • Identify and deliver projects to optimise CHPP operation in terms of Safety, Volume and Cost;
  • Assist with the planning, design and verification of improvement projects and ensure improvements are sustained, replicated and achieve desired outcome from a process engineering perspective;
  • Monitor real time production status and allocate resources to execute the daily plan through the use of process control systems;
  • Build cross functional relationships with the Operational, Maintenance & Planning sub-functions to support the delivery of production;
  • Develops the weekly and monthly (SRF) logistics plan that achieves and maintains predictable, stable levels of logistics and quality performance;
  • Provides specialist advice and guidance in coordinating day-to-day execution of material movements with focus on coal quality and quantity of supply to customers;
  • Complete business case justification for prioritised improvements and facilitate hand over to execution teams;
  • Oversee and coordinate execution of the railing/shipping plan and manage deviations in consultation with BHP Logistics and port side quality control;
  • Conducts monitoring, reporting and analysis of quality and quantity performance to plan;
  • Lead and guide others within Production Execution and Technical teams in the execution of production forecasts in alignment with production operating standards, procedures and work instructions.

About You

You will possess tertiary qualifications in Mineral Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Metallurgy (or similar) and ideally also have worked in the coal industry and have experience in continuous improvement and/or coal processing projects. Other attributes will include:
  • Be able to demonstrate the confidence to lead by example, hold yourself and others accountable and coach others in ‘Safety Leadership’;
  • Ability to monitor and track processing plant trends and take action to mitigate any processing losses;
  • The ability to work in a complex and dynamic environment and juggle priorities for superior business outcomes;
  • Strong customer and stakeholder focus, with a good understanding of the broader supply chain and business needs;
  • Comfortable working with data, formulating meaningful business cases and influencing decisions;
  • Well-developed analytical and critical assessment skills;
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and solid presentation skills;
  • Ability to quickly and constructively work within the Daunia CHPP operations team;
  • Ability to communicate across multiple levels and disciplines in a consultative manner;
  • Computer literacy in MS suite of programs - Intermediate MS Excel and MS Word skills are essential.
