About BHP

At BHP Technology we support our people to grow, learn, develop their skills and reach their potential.

With a global portfolio of operations, we offer a diverse and inclusive environment with extraordinary career opportunities. Our strategy is to focus on creating a safe work environment where our employees feel strongly connected to our values and objectives, and where the capability of our people is key to our success.

To enable the rapid deployment of digital solutions we have established Digital Teams here in Queensland. Think of us as a “startup within a company” made up of multi-disciplinary, non-hierarchical teams with one focus: delivering digital solutions that improve the lives and work of our mining teams.

We work fast and solve tough problems, and pride ourselves on our culture of open collaboration, safety, diversity of thought and fun. We’re looking for the best and brightest developers, engineers, data scientists and designers to join us, working from our new nerve center in Brisbane.

Come and be a part of this success.

About the role

As the Product Owner you will create and own the product development and operational roadmap. You will define the strategic vision for your team in alignment with Asset strategies and the overall vision of the Digital Factory. You will build close relationships with key stakeholders to ensure that the effort of the Product team is aligned with the overall strategy. You will work closely within your team to ensure business value and user feedback is translated into new developments.

You will have overall accountability for the success of the product and the value it delivers to the customer.

The fun parts of this role include;

  • Set ambitious and clear product vision and communicate it effectively to stakeholders, the team, and the rest of the Digital Factory.
  • Own the product from inception through operations
  • Collaborate with Asset and Digital Factory stakeholders to ensure products align within team strategy and requirements
  • Represent user needs to the Digital Factory teams and technical features back to Asset stakeholders – being the translator between technology and business
  • Be accountable for product specific KPIs once solution enters production
  • Translate user needs into user stories and acceptance criteria for their team, maintaining a backlog 3 to 4 sprints ahead of the team
  • Prioritise the highest value features of the product and dynamically adapting the backlog based on user feedback and evolving product learnings
  • Facilitate release planning with stakeholders and regular demos
  • Collaborate with the team on a daily basis
  • Integrate usability studies and research into product requirements to enhance user satisfaction and ensure customer driven design
  • Understand the strategic importance of data as “fuel” to digital delivery value, and be excited about contemporary data and digital technologies and their role to sustainable delivery velocity.

About You

You will be a trailblazer who enjoys delivering great products through complex problem solving. As a fantastic communicator you will be able to get the best of a team and able to engage with a range of multidisciplinary stakeholders.

We are looking for those with the following
  • STEM Bachelor’s degree highly desirable
  • Experience delivering products as a Product Owner
  • Capable as a mentor, collaborator, team player, and individual contributor
  • Strong communication skills with comfort in speaking with business stakeholders
  • Problem solver with ability to manage and lead the team to push the solution and progress
  • Commercial acumen, including ability to translate and track project outcomes to financial impact
  • Believes in a non-hierarchical culture of collaboration, transparency, safety, and trust
  • Not afraid to “roll up the sleeves” and seeks to go outside comfort zone to learn – pushes teams to do the same
  • Experimental mindset to drive innovation
  • Experience in facilitating agile ceremonies, managing a backlog/release plan, tracking team level metrics, removing blockers (burndown chart, release burn up, etc.) preferred
  • Experience leading with teams in an agile setting preferred
  • Passion to continually learn and re-learn about all things data and digital
