Nickel West Mt Keith
Nickel West Mt Keith is located 460 kilometres north of Kalgoorlie in the Northern Goldfields.  Nickel West Mt Keith is a surface mining operation with multiple open pits and a concentrator plant.  The operation is surrounded by pastoral stations, with the nearest townships being Leinster and Wiluna.  There’s plenty to keep you entertained in the Mt Keith Village. Take the heat off the day and head to the pool – or join in any number of social activities. Employees commute to and from Perth on a fly in / fly out roster or form regional areas on a drive in / drive out roster.

About the role

This role is a key leadership position within the Production Team at Mount Keith, an open pit nickel mine in Western Australia. We are seeking a talented individual to take on the role of Production Mining Superintendent/ Quarry Manager at our Mt Keith Mine on a family friendly 5,2,4,3 or 8:6 roster.    As the onsite licensed Quarry Manager Day to day you’ll be responsible for:  
  • Demonstrating an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development
  • Providing leadership and direction to the Mine Production Execution and Drill and blast teams to safely and cost effectively load and haul product to primary crushing facilities/stockpile/waste dumps
  • Leading a team of approximately 200 employees (6-8 direct reports) to operate a fleet of 996 Liebherr Shovels, Liebherr 9400, RH340 excavators, Hitachi 1900  and 793/785 Caterpillar trucks safely, efficiently and in accordance with the Mine plan, process specifications and the Operation’s technical standards to provide a consistent and accurate supply of product within quality specifications
  • Positively influence the culture of a large team of personnel to ensure alignment with BHP Charter Values and code of business conduct.  
  • Enforcing high standards of workmanship, the pursuit of individual accountability and inter-peer and Supervisor trust
  • Liaising with Processing Production, the broader Mining Production team, Mobile Maintenance and Technical Services team, in order to ensure execution of the Production plans in a coordinated way

About You

The ideal candidate will be a Certified Quarry Manager and will have either completed a tertiary qualification in Mining (or related discipline) or equivalent industry and/or organisational experience.

You’ll also possess: Proven experience leading teams of people and the process of improving culture to drive high performance, trust and accountability at a Superintendent or equivalent level.
  • Experience in a large-scale mining operation
  • Proven experience managing material or fatal risk and safe systems of work
  • A proven track record of safety management and working knowledge of mines safety and inspection act and regulations
  • Strong communication, negotiation, influencing and relationship management skills
  • Demonstrated oral and written English language proficiency
  • Demonstrated track record of continuous improvement
  • Proven experience in being a safe and responsible driver with a “can do” attitude
