About the role

Peak Downs is owned and operated by BMA and is one of the world's largest open cut coal operations, producing 10Mtpa of hard coking coal. Peak Downs has an opportunity for a Pump Supervisor to join their team, based in the Production Coal Department. 

This role is based at Peak Downs Mine in Central Queensland working on a 7 days on 7 days off shift roster. 

As the Pump Supervisor in our Mine Services team you will be responsible for supervising the Pumping team in the delivery and management of operational raw water movement in line with operating standards, procedures, work instructions and defined processes in order to achieve optimal production goals.

In this role your responsibilities will include:
  • Have an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development;
  • Lead the team in the reporting of events, hazards and investigate reported events;
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key production supervisors, coordinators  and superintendents on site,
  • Supervise raw water management and poly welding teams as per site priorities;
  • Your proven ability to motivate and manage teams is essential to your success in this role;
  • Effectively assigning and communicating tasks to teams and team members;
  • Manage a small team, identify performance enhancing initiatives and support team development and collaboration;
  • Provide site expertise, drive continuous improvement projects and challenge the status quo;
  • Run and monitor various pumps used for dewatering e.g. High wall pumps

About You

Your proven ability to motivate and manage teams is essential to your success in this role. Supervisory experience within a civil or mining environment is desirable, as is exposure to large pumping installations, open cut pit dewatering, water management and basic pumping theory. You will utilise your ability to manage multiple conflicting priorities, strong decision-making skills and your ability to stay calm under pressure in order to achieve the best outcome for your crew and production.

You will also be a performance and achievement oriented professional, who is motivated by exceeding expectations and able to use your relationship building and negotiation skills in order to influence others and hold them to account.
In addition the ideal candidate will have the following:
  • 5 Years open cut experience with pumping water
  • Poly welding qualifications and experience will be highly regarded 
  • S1,S2 & S3 is essential and G2 is desirable
  • Experience in a Leadership role in the mining sector.
