About IROC

Perth City Square is home to BHP Iron Ore’s state-of-the-art Integrated Remote Operations Centre (IROC).  Our Control Centre operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week using advanced, real-time technology to enable visibility and control, across the entire Iron Ore supply chain.

About the role

As a Rail Controller you will be based within our IROC Rail Control team taking ownership for the safety of our people in the field, achieving production targets, by enabling the effective operation of our rail network.

Reporting to the Supervisor Rail Control, your duties will be to focus on planning, coordination and implementation of mainline and yard movements.  Ensuring that the rail safety management plan is adhered to and daily train schedules met, will result in an ongoing supply of iron ore from the Mines to the Ports whilst providing for safe operations for track maintenance, signals and communication maintenance team. You will take an active role in ensuring compliance to schedule and operating philosophies, driving a culture that not only conforms to company safety standards, but also seeks to continuously improve operating efficiency and realise cost benefits.

Our Rail Controllers are expected to exercise considerable latitude and independent judgment in the day-to-day conduct of the work.

Lifestyle Roster

This position will work on our Lifestyle Roster, working a pattern of days and nights, with a block of days off at the end of each swing. 

Employees on this roster enjoy two full weekends off out of four and will align to the following shift rotation: 2D2N5X, 2D3N4X, 3D2N5X. Shifts are 12.5 hours including handover and you will benefit from additional shift allowances, as part of your remuneration package. As an added benefit, those on a Lifestyle Roster will also enjoy an additional week of annual leave per year.

About You

To be successful in this role, it is critical that you possess previous Rail Control Experience preferably in a mining environment.

Strong Leadership skills, and strong technical skills is desirable. You will be comfortable with detailed reporting and analytics, as well as drawing concise data from these activities to identify faults and optimise operational outputs.
