About the role

We are currently looking for an experienced Senior Engineering Technician Electrical to join our team in Nelson Point, Port Hedland. Reporting to the Electrical Area Owner - Outflow, you will play an integral role by:
  • Ensure conformance with the BHP Billiton Charter, the BHP Billiton Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations
  • An overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development
  • As an Appointed Electrical Supervisor, you are required to ensure compliance with the requirements of the Mine Safety and Inspection Act and Mines Safety Inspection Regulations section 5 in accordance with your appointment
  • Maintaining a high profile in the promotion of safe working conditions and practices so as to ensure a safe working environment for all employees and contractors. Show leadership in Take 5s, Field Leadership Activities, Safety Meetings & JHAs
  • Operating within an established maintenance management system, your key focus will be to promote a high level of team interaction and coordination
  • Taking responsibility for identifying and resolving problems, and for assessing the potential impact on production, plant and equipment
  • Leading and coaching team members in the active pursuit and achievement of maintenance excellence 
  • Ensure operational discipline in 1SAP Work Management practices. Assist in delivering planned maintenance to drive a safe and reliable plant which includes daily review of notifications, liaising with planners to develop daily, weekly, monthly plans, interactions with shutdown coordinator to ensure high quality of scopes maintained and execution of those tasks
  • Review 1plan and forward log for maintenance execution opportunities 


In this residential role you will be based in the coastal town of Port Hedland, Western Australia on a 5/3 or 4/3 roster. Port Hedland is home to our port and rail operations and is the largest regional centre in North West Australia.  The 20,000-strong population enjoys well-established education services, entertainment, shopping and medical facilities. 

The excellent sporting and leisure facilities include; a new aquatic centre, sports stadium and water play park. Its beaches and mangroves are home to an abundance of fish and other wildlife.  Within driving distance are the spectacular Broome, Karratha and Karijini national Park. As this is a residential position you will also be provided with subsidised rental accommodation in addition to power and water subsidies.

About You

As the successful candidate you will possess the following:
  • Electrical WA ‘A’ Grade Licence -  essential
  • Technical knowledge of PLCs, VVVFs, HV/LV motors and Citect systems 
  • Proven ability to communicate plans clearly and concisely
  • Highly developed analytical and problem solving skills
  • Proficiency in organising and coordinating plant maintenance , projects and shutdowns
  • Working knowledge of project management principles
  • Valid Australian C- class driver’s license
