One of Australia’s largest mines and a complex minerals processing operation, Olympic Dam, is unique in that we produce Copper, Uranium, Gold and Silver. Please note this position will be based in Adelaide, with site travel required.  FIFO or residential options are available.

About the role

Reporting to the Superintendent Process Safety, the Senior Process Safety Engineer will provide support for Olympic Dam. This role is focused around implementing a process safety management framework for Olympic Dam Surface Operations, while providing day-to-day process safety support to the frontline workforce. This role requires significant collaboration and engagement with operations, maintenance, engineering, subject matter experts, HSE personnel, and leadership. It requires experience with complex processing plants and strong communication, engagement and change leadership skills.

Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
  • Implement the process safety management framework, including standards, procedures and tools for process safety and risk management.
  • Implementation and analysis of process safety lead and lag indicators.
  • Develop and implement process safety awareness and training program for the workforce.
  • Assess process safety events to identify common themes, root causes and recommend proactive opportunities.
  • Lead and/or support investigations into process safety events.
  • Support operations day-to-day including incident reporting and abnormal operations risk assessments.
  • Provide technical support and/or mentoring to team members.
  • Participate in any other projects or key tasks as directed by line manager or delegate.
  • Demonstrate an overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development.

About You

Possessing either an engineering degree and/or equivalent experience, you will also have relevant experience in process safety management, preferably in a major hazards facility with chemical or oil/gas production. You will also have:
  • Experience developing or working under a safety management system.
  • Experience in an operating environment.
  • Risk management and risk assessment skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to challenge and lead change.
