Our Operation

One of Australia’s largest mines and a complex minerals processing operation, Olympic Dam, is unique in that we produce Copper, Uranium, Gold and Silver. The local township of Roxby Downs is an active and progressive community offering a variety of modern, well equipped housing, educational, health, sporting, leisure, shopping and cultural facilities.

Please note this position is based at Olympic Dam, operating on a 5/2 residential, or 5/2/4/3 FIFO (from Adelaide) roster.  BHP will support relocation if required.

About the role

Working in our Fixed Plant Maintenance Reliability Team, this role will coordinate and assist in the development, deployment, and continuous improvement of fixed plant maintenance work management strategies for the Olympic Dam Mine Operation. Establishing and maintaining relationships with the maintenance, production and engineering teams will be critical to ensure success in this role.

In this role you will:
  • Be first and foremost focused on creating a culture of care by being a visible safety leader.
  • Demonstrate safety leadership by supporting the Field Leadership program to leading/coach continuous safety improvement and performance
  • Coordinate activities of Reliability team members based on business priorities
  • Benchmark rail, crusher, hoist, conveyor, stacker, pumpstation and raised bore equipment performance
  • Identify and manage improvement projects to lift performance of key fixed plant assets (availability, utilisation and rate) 
  • Develop and automate reports on equipment performance against benchmark
  • Initiate root cause analysis reviews following sub target equipment performance events
  • Coordinate and track delivery of actions on RCA’s for the department
  • Perform detailed analysis of conditioning monitoring data, initiates maintenance strategies and/or changes to strategies to address emerging risks 
  • Analyse life of plant, equipment and infrastructure and determine equipment capability assumptions based on the 2 year Production plan and provides input into the development of the capital budget for the area 
  • Analyse performance metrics and benchmarks performance across the function in other BHP businesses

About You

  • Tertiary engineering qualification, electrical or mechanical preferred.
  • Previous experience in a senior role ideally, with business improvement initiatives
  • Problem solving and risk management skills
  • Ability to influence, engage with & communicate effectively across multiple levels, business units and functional areas
  • Demonstrate the confidence to lead by example, hold yourself and others accountable and coach others in ‘Safety Leadership’
  • Ability to develop credibility across multiple levels and stakeholder groups
  • Inclusive team player that is proactive, self-driven and accountable
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Confident to coach, lead and initiate change
