About the role

We are currently looking for an experienced Signals Technician to join our Rail Maintenance team! This role will be responsible for implementing signal project upgrades, changes and maintenance. 

The successful candidate will be working towards the delivery of value-adding projects and maintenance to ensure high level of availability for signals infrastructure. Main job responsibilities will include but not limited to: 
  • Ensure conformance with the BHP Billiton Charter, the BHP Billiton Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations
  • An overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development
  • Undertaking signal maintenance and renewal works
  • Assist with scope identification for Maintenance and Renewal Works (requirements and timeframes)
  • Liaise with contractors and BHP employees to achieve targets safely
  • Ensure works are completed on time and up to standard
  • Assist with training of sub-contractors and other staff including apprentices and graduate Engineers

About You

As the successful candidate you will possess the following:
  • Cert IV Electrical Rail Signalling
  • “A” Grade Electrical Licence
  • Equipment familiarity – GE equipment, coded track circuits,  train control systems, grade predictor flash light crossings and telemetry systems both radio & fibre experience will be highly regarded 
  • A C class drivers licence 
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office suite and computerised maintenance management systems

This position is based at Port Hedland, Redmont, Yandi or Newman dependent on the work required on a fly-in fly-out 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off roster.  Port Hedland is home to our port and rail operations and is the largest regional centre in North West Australia.  

The outstanding facilities at the FIFO villages include; a fully equipped gym, TV lounge and games rooms. All rooms at the villages have their own en-suite bathroom, television, refrigerator and air-conditioning.
