Following the successful rollout of our first fully autonomous haul truck fleet at Jimblebar in late 2017, BHP is assessing the opportunity to expand the implementation of autonomous haulage within our open-cut iron ore and coal operations in Australia. 

This assessment is being undertaken by a dedicated Autonomous Haulage Australia (AHA) Project team. AHA is looking for new team members to work on the project.

About the role

Reporting to the Superintendent Operations Support, you will be part of a core team that will accelerate the Autonomous Haulage capability growth with BHP. This role will drive rapid improvement through people, process and systems. You will work with the Principal of Continuous Improvement to deliver the project bench marks.
 This role is responsible for: 
  • The application of continuous improvement fundamentals for use within an autonomous haulage systems
  • The application of coaching techniques to develop frontline knowledge in the AH System and Product
  • Identification of opportunities through observation and data
  • Data-based decision making to develop an outcomes based culture
  • Design and implementation of best practice and standardization within autonomous haulage
While your role is based out of our Brisbane office, you will work at site extensively, connecting with the operations and ensuring the solutions and processes you are developing are tailored to site. In this role you will actively engage with the teams on site and develop comprehensive best practice solutions that will enable the operational team to operate safely and productively in an autonomous environment. 

This is a great opportunity for a driven, operational professional to be involved in BHPs growth in a cutting edge technology/mining transformation project. This position is a key to build capacity in autonomous systems in BHP. 

About You

You have safety at the forefront of your mind when you interact and engage with people. You understand mining operations and have experience autonomous mining systems (Komatsu or Caterpillar). You have high level communication and engagement skills and you have used these in an operational training capacity. You can develop trust and relationships with your stakeholders and influence ways of working. You are able to work independently to achieve business goals and outcomes. Ideally you will have experience in one of the following areas;
  • Operating/ Training (autonomous ideally)
  • Operations Supervision (autonomous ideally)
  • Mine Controller
  • Optimisation, continuous improvement or those with training in LEAN or similar practises
