About the role

Reporting to the Lead Cost Engineering you will undertake the following:
  • Ensure conformance with the BHP Charter, the BHP Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations.
    • An overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
    • Consistently apply cost engineering standards and practices in the provision of project services for a project/program of projects.
    • Provides cost engineering expertise and support to the Project Management Office, Project Development and Delivery sub-functions to ensure the optimum delivery of a project/program of projects.
    • Implements the appropriate cost control regime for a particular project given its scope, contracting strategy, complexity, and other project factors.
    • Collates and reviews individual project costs and comparison against the project budget.
    • Ensures project costs incurred, commitments and forecasts are accurately recorded in the Cost Management System (Ecosys).
    • Facilitate the change management process on projects including the incorporation of change and trend information into cost forecasts.
    • Compiles cost trends and provides advice regarding corrective action.
    • Identifies and implements Cost Engineering improvement initiatives.
    • Liaises with representatives from the project teams, Risk, Contracts, and Project Services to develop the time phased forecast to complete on projects.
    • Manages and submits project accruals.
    • Leads the development of the project capitalisation strategy.
    • Guides and coaches project personnel on the requirements and implementation of cost engineering principles.
LocationYou will be based in Perth, Western Australia, in the multi award winning office tower - ‘City Square’. You will have stunning river views from your modern open plan office, state of the art facilities including virtual whiteboards and video conferencing facilities, 550 bicycle racks with ample lockers, showers and change room amenities and a large outdoor terrace with barbecues.

About You

You will have the following:
  • Undergraduate qualifications in Business (Finance or Accounting Major) , Engineering or Quantity Surveying
  • Experience with Cost Management Systems (e.g. Ecosys, Prism, CMS)
  • Advanced skills in the use of Microsoft Excel
  • 5+ years’ practical experience in a commercial environment focussed on Cost Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or related disciplines
  • Relevant experience in Cost Engineering, Estimating, Planning and/or Project Control, preferably in EPCM or Owner’s Team positions
  • Demonstrated experience with project management systems & techniques
  • Ability to engage with & communicate effectively across multiple business units and functional areas
  • Exceptional productivity which demonstrates reliability in getting the job done accurately and on time
  • Ability to provide input into project cost estimates prior to submission to capital review committees
  • Facilitate / coordinate Monthly Project Status Reporting
  • Commitment to quality and continuous improvement
