About the role

A 12 month opportunity currently exists for a Specialist Engineer – Civil within the Coal Asset Projects Technical Function.The Specialist Engineer – Civil applies technical engineering expertise to projects and to the discipline engineering team, through the development and embedment of civil engineering strategies, standards and frameworks that ensure engineering processes and designs are optimised to enable safe, efficient and effective construction, commissioning and operation of facilities and infrastructure, throughout their lifecycle. This role is based in Brisbane, travel to site is expected as business needs demand. This is an opportunity to have a real business impact.


Reporting to the Coal Discipline Engineering Manager your duties will include but not be limited to;
  • Supplying technical input as the Subject Matter Expert within project milestones and delivery dates to support projects’ civil engineering requirements and to provide early advice to stakeholders about technical risks.
  • Application of civil engineering expertise to support project teams in developing and delivering safe, effective and value-optimised solutions.
  • Review of engineering deliverables to ensure solution meets the project’s design intent.
  • Support engineering team members to ensure delivery against performance targets.
  • Identifying the appropriate engineering standards for a project scope to drive lean, fit for purpose and safe design.
  • Establish relationships with engineering consultants which are based on a professional level of technical challenge to drive lean and fit for purpose design without jeopardising project progress.
  • Collaboration with the Principal Engineer - Civil to create new technical and discipline engineering standards where required for the delivery of the program scope of work.
  • Liaising with operations and other technical groups to ensure business alignment of projects and assist with handover.
  • Become a team member who is regarded for their technical knowledge and supplies cooperative, pro-active and solution focused project input.


About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering with postgraduate qualifications in engineering or management highly desirable.
  • Experience with the design of mine civil infrastructure with an engineering consultancy or asset owner is required, with particular experience with the design dams, levees, and other water management infrastructure being highly desirable.
  • Some experience is required with the supervision or certification of the construction phase of infrastructure lifecycle.
