About the role

The China Compliance Officer will provide on the ground Ethics & Compliance support across BHP’s operations in China, working closely with Sales & Marketing, Maritime, Procurement, Technology, Corporate Affairs and the Leadership Team in China.

·       Responsible for the management of day-to-day operations of the E&C program in China, including pro-active engagement with key China-based stakeholders to gain a full understanding of BHP’s evolving E&C risk profile in China
·       Due diligence and risk mitigation for all compliance-related areas, particularly those requiring interaction with counterparties in Mandarin (e.g., interviews, obtaining information, review of controls, ongoing interactions with third parties, reporting, etc.)
·       Assist on internal investigations that have a China component
·       Support onsite investigations by government authorities
·       Drive China state and commercial secrets compliance, including screening and approvals where necessary
·       Act as local touchpoint for risk-based advice on E&C risk areas in China, keeping China perspective and BHP risk appetite in mind
·       Support China E&C risk and controls assessments and activities
·       Conduct face-to-face training in Mandarin for all E&C risk areas
·       Support for the E&C team in connection with insider trading, material non-public information and market manipulation laws and policies
·       Promotion of a culture of compliance taking into account BHP’s risk appetite
·       E&C support related to international shipping and China domestic transport of BHP’s products
·       Close coordination with Sales & Marketing, Maritime and Corporate Affairs on joint interest projects/initiatives
·       Other E&C related duties as directed

About You

The ideal candidate will have experience in financial systems and risk management, along with the ability to rapidly acquire a deep understanding of compliance laws. You will hold a degree in accounting, finance, business or law.

In order to be successful in this position you will display a strong track record of working autonomously and effectively within a team environment. Effective communication skills in both Mandarin are essential, along with a motivated and positive outlook focusing on high performance results.
