About the role

An exciting opportunity exists to join our central BMA Asset Engineering Team based in our Bowen Basin Operations.  BMA Engineering plays a critical role in ensuring safety and stability of each Operation. This Specialist Fire Systems Engineer role will report to the Governance & Technical Stewardship Superintendent and will play a key role in the Governance of the Operations Fire Protection Facilities.

You will join a team of successful engineers and work collaboratively with all BMA Operations across the Bowen Basin.

About You

As part of the Asset Engineering Team within BMA the following attributes will be key to your success:

  • Bachelor or equivalent Degree in Engineering
  • Extensive relevant experience in Fire Systems Engineering and execution
  • You will have a strong demonstrated experience in embedding the end to end process required to maintain existing fire equipment and ability to implement industry best practice for future projects. 
  • Have demonstrated capabilities in effectively engaging with various levels and across Operations and Functions
  • Experience in managing contractors to deliver positive results in safety, culture and productivity.
  • A proven track record of safety leadership.
  • Strong organising and problem solving capabilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

The successful candidate must have proven experience in design and management of fire protection projects, as well as solid knowledge of the following codes and standards:

  • Routine service of fire protection systems and equipment to AS 1851
  • Fixed fire protection installations - Pumpset systems to AS 2941
  • Automatic Fire Sprinkler Systems to AS 2118
  • Hydrant systems to AS2419
  • Hose reel systems to AS2441
  • Smoke and Thermal detection systems to AS1670
  • Knowledge of NFPA and other international codes is highly regarded
