About the role

BHP Coal is in search of a self-motivated, mining professional, who can play an integral role in supporting a diverse team stakeholders within the Resource Engineering Function. The Specialist Functional Improvement Projects is part of the Resource Engineering department in our Coal Business. The role is based in our Brisbane office and provides the successful applicant with the opportunity to work as part of a small team that plays a key role in advancing the future of the department through delivery high-value improvement projects and initiatives.

The Specialist Functional Improvement Projects has the opportunity to showcase their business improvement and analytical skills whilst working with a variety of stakeholders across highly technical engineering disciplines. The successful candidate will be instrumental in identifying areas for improvement, through monitoring of performance, maintaining technical/personal objectivity for successful diagnosis of improvement opportunities.

Responsibilities include:
  • Collaboration with personnel and key stakeholders;
  • Develop and deliver information packages and presentations around improvement initiatives and programs; 
  • Information analysis and reporting on the performance of key department metrics;
  • Identification, scoping and driving continued improvement of standardised tools, systems and processes;
  • Promote and lead a continuous improvement mindset by constantly looking for opportunities to increase efficiencies in work practices;
  • Demonstrate strong technical foundations and a mature active listening approach to get to root causes and problem solve with highly technical stakeholders; and
  • Conduct technical reviews, develop recommendations and forward- work plans for improvements.

About You

The successful candidate ideally holds a Tertiary Qualification in Engineering, Science or relevant Business discipline and has prior experience in working within an improvement capacity and has supported technical groups. Resourcing industry and consultancy experience is advantageous but not mandatory.

You are highly collaborative nature. Excellent written and verbal communication skills will allow you to partner with a wide variety of stakeholders. An optimistic team player, with a passion for group improvement will excel in this role and have the ability to apply project and change management principles in their day to day operation. The ability to work autonomously will help you to make this role your own.
