Automation is part of BHP's technology strategy to improve safety, build capability and further our competitive advantage.   Following the successful roll-out of our first fully autonomous haul truck fleet at Jimblebar in late 2017, BHP is assessing the opportunity to expand the implementation of autonomous haulage within our open-cut iron ore and coal operations in Australia. A final decision is yet to be made.   This assessment is being undertaken by a dedicated Autonomous Haulage Australia (AHA) Project team. AHA is looking for new team members to work on the project’s definition phase study.  

About the Opportunity
Reporting to Superintendent Maintenance, this role is responsible for the definition, scoping, engineering design, scheduling and costing associated with the proposed fleet modifications. You will provide alignment and support for the Operations Transformation team in developing safe systems of work, whilst ensuring the operating strategy and standards support operational requirements (such as management of change, permits to work, risk assessments, training, site supervision and field leadership). Your 1SAP knowledge will assist in the review, creation and amendments to Master Data, operating standards, procedures, task lists and work instructions.

Using your well-developed communication and engagement skills, building strong relationships and collaborating with Original Equipment Manufacturers, third party vendors and colleagues will be the key to success in this role.

When final decision is made, would decision be made to proceed with transitioning to autonomy, you would be fully involved in the delivery of the project and managing teams of technicians working on the truck conversions.

You will be part of a contemporary, CBD based team, utilising innovative tools and technology to add real value and new approaches to develop and deploy maintenance strategies to support the new equipment / conversions, and continuously improve this process over the duration of the program. This role will be performed from our Perth offices, supported by the latest technology to engage with our operations around Australia, then will be based on site when execution starts.

About You

We are seeking applications from highly motivated individuals with:
  • Mechanical trade or Mechanical Engineering qualification
  • Familiarity with open cut mining operations with a background in Maintenance Execution Role, Analysis & Improvement or Reliability Engineering
  • Autonomous haulage experience within the Mobile Maintenance environments highly regarded
  • Experience building trusted relationships with Original Equipment Manufacturers in design and installations
  • Comfortable with change, and the ability to adapt in a fluid working environment
  • Demonstrated project management skills couples with experience developing effective documents, presentations and reports
  • Ability to influence and manage stakeholder in a complex environment
  • 1SAP experience advantageous
