About BHP

At BHP we support our people to grow, learn, develop their skills and reach their potential.

With a global portfolio of operations, we offer a diverse and inclusive environment with extraordinary career opportunities. Our strategy is to focus on creating a safe work environment where our employees feel strongly connected to our values and objectives, and where the capability of our people is key to our success.

Come and be a part of this success.

About the role

There are multiple roles available across Dragline, Truck/Shovel and Drill & Blast Planning on a 4/3 Roster.

The Mining Engineer role is a pivotal position within the Mine Scheduling team, which defines the what, how & when of the sites execution requirements in areas of drill & blast, overburden removal (truck shovel & draglines), and coal mining.
The successful applicants will get exposure across all design and scheduling disciplines through appropriately timed development rotations.

This is a great opportunity to hone your mine planning and leadership skills as well as further develop a deep understanding of the key value drivers of a large complex open cut mining operation. You will gain exposure to a variety of stripping operations and mine geology whilst seeing the results of your work being implemented.

Your initial responsibilities:
  • Generate Execution Designs and handover to Production teams
  • Construct weekly plan through effective engagement with all stakeholders
  • Completion of monthly priorities aligned with Business Plan
  • Strong engagement with Production & Mine Services customers to ensure plans are achievable
  • Pursue continuous improvement opportunities throughout your day to day work.

Location:
A competitive package will be offered which will include subsided accommodation. We support flexible work roster arrangements and these will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

About You

As the successful candidate, you will have a tertiary education in Engineering and previous experience working at a large Coal Mining operation, particularly planning for Draglines and/or Truck & Shovel and/or Drill & Blast fleets.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills are a must, allowing you to build relationships across departments and to communicate at all levels. A strong working knowledge of Vulcan, XACT, and the Microsoft Office suite is essential and previous exposure to Blast Logic and HaulInfinity software will be advantageous.

Supporting a diverse workforce

At BHP, we recognise that we are strengthened by diversity. We are committed to providing a work environment in which everyone is included, treated fairly and with respect. We are an Equal Opportunity employer and we encourage applications from women and Indigenous people.

We know there are many aspects of our employees’ lives that are important, and work is only one of these, so we offer benefits to enable your work to fit with your life. These benefits include flexible working options, a generous paid parental leave policy, other extended leave entitlements and parent rooms.
