About the role

This entry-level Mine Scheduling role is a newly created position within the Mine Scheduling team based on site at South Walker Creek Coal mine. As the Specialist Mine Scheduling you will be part of the seven people strong team who plan and schedule the sites execution requirements in areas of drill & blast, overburden removal (dragline, truck shovel and dozer push operations), and coal mining on a 90 day plan. This role is offered on a Monday to Friday roster.

This position is targeted at applicants with existing mining experience who have the desire to transition into a mining engineering role. The successful applicant will receive exposure across all design and scheduling disciplines through appropriately timed development rotations over a two year time frame.

Your initial responsibilities: 

  • Generate Execution Designs and handover to Production teams
  • Construct weekly plan through effective engagement with all stakeholders 
  • Completion of monthly priorities aligned with Business Plan 
  • Strong engagement with Production & Mine Services customers to ensure plans are achievable
  • Pursue continuous improvement opportunities throughout your day to day work.

About You

As the successful candidate, you will have previous exposure to some aspects of large scale Open Cut Mining Operations. Holding an existing or currently obtaining a technical degree (geology, survey, and/or environmental science) is a plus, though not essential to this role.

Your strong communication and will allow you to build relationships across departments and to communicate with a vast variety of stakeholders at all levels. You also share BHP’s overall commitment to safety and performance, through integrity and respect in all that you do.
