About the role

BMC owns and operates two open-cut metallurgical coal mines in the Bowen Basin – South Walker Creek Mine and Poitrel Mine. BMC is owned by BHP (80 per cent) and Mitsui and Co (20 per cent).

We have an exciting opportunity for you to come and join our Mine Scheduling team as an our Lead Mining Scheduling Engineer, working an 8/6 roster at our Poitrel Mine.

Reporting to the Superintendent Mine Scheduling, you will be accountable to provide short to medium term technical direction to the Production team. Facilitate development and implementation of mine plans and lead projects to improve cost effectiveness and productivity. You will be accountable for the planning and scheduling of weekly and three monthly forecast.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Managing balance between real time inputs and cascading of tactical  plans to produce a 90day and weekly execution plan;
  • Engaging with various internal teams and departments including, Production Execution, Technical Services and Resource Development and Planning to optimized the medium term strategies;
  • Integrate safety and mitigation of major hazards through mine design and sequencing;
  • Implement process and systems to continually improve;
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring within the team;
  • Ensuring all schedules, updates and changes to schedules are communicated with all the relevant stakeholders;
  • Meeting key weekly and monthly deliverables and reporting of end of month volumes; and
  • Review planning/operation trends and develop improvement initiates for continuous improvement.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will be safety focused, team oriented and enjoy continuous improvement and driving for results. You will ideally have previous experience in a similar role working for an organization in the mining sector.

To be successful in this role you will possess the following:
  • Tertiary degree in Mining, Civil or relevant education;
  • Demonstrated experience/understanding of a surface mining environment;
  • Experience with planning and scheduling is essential;
  • Experience in mine design and scheduling software (Vulcan, Deswik, etc.); 
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with a variety of stakeholders; and
  • Ability to work flexibly to deadlines and drive quality outcomes.

The successful candidates will have options to choose from a range of company provided travel arrangements or can also select to live residential in the nearby town of Moranbah with subsidised accommodation.
